Groundhog report

I regret to inform you that Punxsutawney Phil, groundhog extraordinaire, saw his shadow this morning, thereby predicting six more weeks of winter.

However, his was a minority opinion, so perhaps we have a chance of early spring after all.

Happy Groundhog Day!

I'm rooting for the groundhog. Irrational, yes, but if this (fifty-to-sixty degree weather during the day, just above freezing at night) is our winter, I'd really rather not see what spring's going to look like. Or summer, for that matter.

NO. All we need to do is steal him, hijack a pickup truck, escape the police, and then commit suicide/murder by driving off a ledge and die in flaming glory.

A la Bill Murray.

Six more weeks of winter like yesterday's winter (when I doffed my coat and frolicked! Frolicked!) is a-okay by me.

I'm not from the US, and this yearly ritual fascinates me. *puts on anthropologist hat* Why is Punxsutawney Phil the "main" groundhog? Why is he more reliable than the others?

I was intrigued by the "show" mention and spent ten minutes looking at groundhog videos on YouTube. Feeling much educated now. What a crowd!
