Happy DOINK! reveal, everyone! I totally scored this year, receiving not one, not two, but *three* awesome fics based on my prompts, one regular gift and two Moogle Fluff stories:

Compromise by [personal profile] lassarina - FFXII, Ashe/Balthier post-game.

There the Bones of Us May Lie by [personal profile] justira -- even more Ashe/Balthier, this one set during the game, right after Ridorana.

Warrior's Flame by [archiveofourown.org profile] Jessicamariek -- FFX, Rikku and a proper Al Bhed mourning ritual for Tidus and Auron.

I adore them all and highly recommend that you check them out.

As for me, I wrote two gifts this year:

On the Sidelines - FFX-2, Paine and Lulu. "On Yuna's first visit back to Besaid, Paine and Lulu have an opportunity to get to know each other a little better."

Dreams & Obligaions - FFXII, Ashe/Basch. "Ashe and Basch have been carrying on a secret relationship ever since the war ended. But changes will soon force their secrets to come to light, and Ashe and Basch must decide how to proceed."

Looking for more? The full collection is here. Enjoy!

Title: An Unlikely Partnership
Fandom: Iron Man (MCU) and Sherlock Holmes (Guy Ritchie movies)
Rating: Teen, for now (for violence, not sex)
Wordcount: ~4800 (Chapter 1 of ?)
Characters: John Watson, Tony Stark, Yinsen
Spoilers: For the first Iron Man movie
Notes: Um. Yeah. Okay. So awhile back, I was doing some prompt meme or another on Tumblr, and someone asked for Steampunk Iron Man. I wrote a quick Tony/Pepper ficbit (based on IM2 continuity) and joked that, if I were going to really write Steampunk Iron Man, it would have to be a crossover with the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes films. As such ideas tend to do, it hung around in the back of my mind for awhile, nagging at me, but it didn't rise up and demand to be written until I realized it would make an excellent fit for one of my [community profile] trope_bingo prompts: "doppleganger + fusion". It's really only the first chapter of what is likely to turn into a monster fic, but I think it stands alone well enough to submit for the squares.

Title: Infiltration
Fandom: Captain America (movie canon)
Rating: G
Wordcount: 8800
Characters: Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers, cast. Peggy/Steve UST.
Spoilers: For the film.
Notes: So over on my Tumblr, I did a giveaway where I offered to write stories (or meta, but everyone requested stories) for three winners. This is the first, for [tumblr.com profile] sakuratsukikage. Sakura requested a story about Peggy and Steve going on a mission with lots of UST and unresolved emotions, and this was the result. I hope she, and the rest of you, enjoy it.

Also on AO3

The map was the first thing Peggy saw every time she walked into the room. )

I did the 15 Characters Meme on Tumblr last week -- create a secret list of 15 characters, take prompt request with numbers standing in for the characters, see what happens -- and had a lot of fun. My list was a mixture of characters from Dragon Age, MCU, FFX/X-2, and FFXII. Some of the results (mostly on Tumblr, a few crossposted to AO3):

Steve Rogers challenges Basch fon Ronsenberg to a duel.

“I’m not so sure this was a great idea,” Bucky said, looking over his shoulder to the other side of the clearing where Basch checked the straps of his armor. “He looks pretty handy with that sword, and I don’t know if you’ve ever as much as picked one up before.”

Steve shook his head, then hooked his shield over his arm. “I don’t see that I have much choice,” he said. “That army is threatening the whole platoon. If I can save everyone on both sides by taking out their general, then I’ll do my best with a sword.”

Natasha Romanoff and Tony Stark in a love triangle, competing for the affections of another.

Tony stared across the room at Pepper, not quite certain he’d heard her right. “You have… plans? With someone who isn’t me?”

“Contrary to popular opinion, Tony Stark is not at all times the center of the universe.” Pepper crossed her arms with half a smile.

Seven and Nine get lost and argue over directions.

Character Seven was Balthier. Character Nine was Tony Stark. You have no idea how much I love this prompt.

Recast Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy as characters One and Nine. Rewrite the failed proposal scene.

The role of Elizabeth Bennet will be played by Alistair. The role of Mr. Darcy will be played by Yuna.

Alistair, Yuna, Tony Stark, and Sigrun throw a surprise party for Paine and Ashe. Two surprise party prompts combined into one story.

“C’mon, they’ll be here soon!” Sigrun ducked down behind the Warden-Commander’s desk and gestured for the others to join her. Alistair followed with a grin, but Tony didn’t move from his spot by the bar, and Yuna wavered.

“I… I don’t know,” she said. “Paine doesn’t always like surprises. I’m not sure Ashe does, either.”

Sigrun and Ashe, unexpected travel.

This prompt slots neatly into my Wardens of Ivalice AU, as a missing scene from "The Joining."

Auron and Basch are accidentally locked in a room overnight.

Auron turned the handle one last time, just to make absolutely certain there was nothing to do — he couldn’t break the lock, or bust down the door. “It seems to be sealed magically,” he said.

“Then it appears we are here for the time being.” Basch slid down the wall to take a seat on the floor, and Auron followed suit, tipping his head backwards. “I don’t suppose you carry rations?”

Ashe cuts Basch’s hair.

Though any of a hundred servants could have been called to take on the chore, Ashe feels compelled to perform this duty herself. After the Strahl is safe in the royal aerodrome but before anyone disembarks, she requests a pair of scissors, and then she cuts Basch’s hair.

Paine is afraid, because Balthier hates Yuna.

“You really think they’d come after us?”

Paine turned her head sharply to meet Yuna’s eyes. “You know Balthier wanted that sphere cache. You know you beat him to it, snatched it up from under his nose. And if you think the Youth League was mad when we pulled that stunt with them…” She shook her head. “They’ll be after us, all right."

I have recently completed two [community profile] trope_bingo fics, both Dragon Age, both used as prompts for other challenges. Just two more squares to go!

Title: To Clear the Air
Rating: G
Wordcount: 1,241
Characters: Isabela, Marian Hawke
Spoilers: DA2, through the end of Act 2
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] dragonagewomen. The prompt was "in vino veritas + holiday fic".

Marian Hawke and Isabela go out drinking to ring in the New Year. Some secrets are revealed. Others are not.

Title: Living Dead Girls
Rating: G
Wordcount: 644
Characters: Bethany Hawke, Sigrun
Spoilers: Implied, for DA2 and Awakening
Notes: Written for Sigrun Fan Week on Tumblr, although it's really more about Bethany. The prompt was "presumed dead + truth or dare".

A game of truth or dare turns unexpectedly serious. A bit of musing on the Grey Wardens versus the Legion of the Dead.

I've been busy! This is most everything I've written thus far, except for one Bethany/Nathaniel/Anders that I think I may continue on past kissing the next time I'm in the mood to write up some porn. It's been a blast (and I'll keep modding the DAKB as long as people keep writing and prompting!), but I'm probably done for now. Time to move on to a request fic and a trope bingo story, both in MCU.

FFX

Title: Recovery
Characters: Lulu, Wakka, Luzzu
Prompt: "Wakka/Lulu/Luzzu, Putting the broken pieces back together"
Notes: Also inspired by my recent replay of FFX. Set right after Operation Mi'ihen.
On AO3

FFXII (OGC)

Title: Distractions
Characters: Balthier/Ashe, Fran
Prompt: "It's not for your benefit that I do this," said Fran
Notes: Yep, that's not a prompt I could have possibly resisted.
On AO3

FFXIII (OGC)

Title: Morning Watch
Characters: Fang/Vanille
Prompt: Fang/Vanille: early morning, when the light is soft and the dew is cool.
Notes: Set on Gran Pulse. Just a bit of fluff.
On AO3

Dragon Age

Title: Bar Stories
Characters: Merrill, Isabela, Aveline, Varric
Prompt: Varric/Cassandra, "It's true, I was there"
Notes: Unreliable narrators for the win. A quickly-written minifill.
On DW

Title: The Leaving
Characters: Loral Mahariel/Merrill
Prompt: Mahariel/Merrill, we should have had more than this
Notes: Somewhat based on my not-yet-finished m!Mahariel playthrough.
On AO3

Title: Business and Pleasure
Characters: Alistair/Anora
Prompt: Alistair/Anora, duty need not be unpleasant
On AO3

Title: Visitations
Characters: Morrigan, Flemeth, the Old God Baby
Prompt: Flemeth+Morrigan, what makes a mother
Notes: Like I can turn down a prompt that lets me write about the Old God Baby.
On AO3

Title: Thief
Characters: Sereda Aeducan/Gorim
Prompt: "Stealing is wrong, your highness"
Notes: Based on my canon Aeducan.
On AO3

Title: Security Breach

Prompt: Isabela/f!Warden, unexpected reunion
Notes: Not my canon Cousland. Inspired by [personal profile] lassarina's Kiss Battle fill for Alistair/Isabela.

Title: Justify the Means
Fandom: Dragon Age
Rating: M
Wordcount: 43k (7 chapters + epilogue)
Characters: f!Aeducan, f!Brosca, Alistair, Oghren, lots of dwarves, most of the main party. Main pairing is f!Brosca/Alistair.
Spoilers: Both dwarf origins, the "Paragon of her Kind" quest line, and endgame.
Notes: A Dragon Age AU, based on the premise that both dwarf origins were recruited as Wardens. Written for the 2012 round of [livejournal.com profile] dragonagebb. Very very many thanks to my beta, [personal profile] here_be_dragons!

My artist was [tumblr.com profile] linaleah, and she created some fantastic portraits and sketches of the two Wardens featured in this story. You can see them all here! Please check them out. :)

Summary: When Duncan paid a visit to Orzammar, he left with not one recruit, but two: Natia Brosca, a girl who survived Dust Town by making friends and moving through the shadows, and warrior princess Sera Aeducan, a talented fighter used to getting her own way. Both survived the Joining and the battle of Ostagar; now, along with Alistair and a few other companions, they must find a way to work together and defeat the Blight.

All written for prompts on Tumblr. Some on Tumblr, some crossposted to AO3.

Cinders:

Title: Untitled
Characters: Sophia/Prince Basile
Prompt: "Enamor Me: a fluffy drabble with characters trying to woo one another"
Notes: A ficlet rather than a drabble.

Three grand balls in a month? How long was it going to take Prince Basile to find a wife, anyway?
---

Dragon Age:

Title: Untitled
Characters: Marissa Hawke/Fenris
Prompt: "Remember Me: one character trying to get another to remember them"
Notes: Follows the AU ficbit "Desperate Times" (Marissa Hawke loses the battle with Danarius and he takes Fenris in exchange for her life; she follows them to carry out a rescue).

Marissa Hawke twirled her staff and let loose one final blast of raw power, lifting Danarius up and flinging him into the cave wall.

Title: Good Clean Fun
Characters: Bethany and Carver Hawke
Prompt: "Amuse Me: one character tries to cheer another up"
Notes: Warden Twins AU.

Carver Hawke is in a bad mood, and his sister Bethany knows just how to make him smile.

Title: One Last Drink
Characters: Alistair, Sten
Prompt: "Drink Me: two characters drinking together"

"Just one drink, before you go.” Sten had responded to Alistair’s request with a single nod; Alistair hadn’t really been certain whether to expect him, but here he was.
---

FFXII:

Title: Buttons
Characters: Ashe/Balthier
Prompt: "Zip Me: One character dressing another, or the other way around."

“Button me up, if you would?” Ashe leaned forward and swept her hair up off her neck.
---

BBC Sherlock:

Title: Telephone
Characters: Lestrade
Prompt: "Mourn Me: one character mourning another"
Notes: Not a fandom I've ever written before, and I may never write it again, but who knows? I've only watched the series once, so please forgive any errors.

Five months, one week, and three days later, Greg Lestrade sat at his desk.

I've written three fics for challenges this month, and received one stunning piece of fanart, and I've just realized how remiss I've been in crossposting them all.

First, the fanart, because it deserves all the attention:

The Gryphon and the Dragon by [archiveofourown.org profile] sqbr

This is an illustration of Alistair meeting his son, imagined as a gryphon and a dragon respectively, as suggested by my short Bedtime Stories, and it. is. gorgeous. I cannot stop marveling at how well it captures Alistair's character, and the imagery of Dragon Age as translated into a fairy tale. So, so awesome. Go look, really.

And now, for the fics:

Title: Let the Punishment Fit the Crime
Fandom: Dragon Age 2
Rating: G
Characters: Aveline, Isabela, Meredith, Donnic. Aveline/Donnic
Spoilers: Through DA2, Act 2
Notes: Written for the [community profile] dragonagewomen/[livejournal.com profile] dragonagewomen challenge.

After a major upheaval in Kirkwall, Aveline is looking for someone to blame, and Isabela makes a convenient target. Major spoilers for Dragon Age 2, the end of Act Two.

Title: Depend on Me
Fandom: FFXIII
Rating: PG (drug use)
Characters: Lightning, Snow, Hope, Fang
Spoilers: Through Chapter 11
Notes: Written for the 2012 EX Mode round of [community profile] newgameplus, based on two different fics by [personal profile] mako_lies. Both fics had interesting things to say about Lightning, as seen through other people's eyes; I turned this around and told it from Lightning's point of view.

Title: Prisoners
Fandom: Dragon Age: Origins
Rating: PG (demonic possession)
Characters: Templar Drass/Desire Demon
Spoilers: For the Broken Circle quest in DA:O.
Notes: Written for the March 2012 round of [community profile] areyougame. Prompt was "Dragon Age: Origins, any applicable/any applicable: seclusion - Being shut away in the Tower does things to a person’s head." I claimed this with the theory that I would write about Anders, but I couldn't come up with anything that grabbed me and that wasn't fairly DA2-centric. Then a very different idea came to me....

Ser Drass is unhappy with his life in Kinloch Hold, but he has everything under control. He's certain of it.

Have I really not crossposted this here since the second chapter? Time to remedy that, since we're now up to Chapter 12 (L is for Legato).

Title: Symphony in C
Fandom: Dragon Age 2
Rating: Most chapters T, overall rating Explicity
Wordcount: 10,092 (12/27 chapters)
Characters: Marissa Hawke, ensemble. f!Hawke/Fenris
Spoilers: Yes; currently up to Act Two, through "A Bitter Pill" and "Questioning Beliefs (Fenris)".

Link to AO3 version.

I'm really pretty happy with how this is going. But it's also making me want to replay this Hawke's DA2 game, which is silly when you think of how many variations I haven't tried yet. I can't help it; I love my surly, grumpy, blunt Marissa to pieces, and I miss hanging out with her.
owlmoose: (da - hawke squares)
Because what I need is a new fic project. Yep, yep.

Title: Symphony in C
Fandom: Dragon Age 2
Rating: T so far; will likely go up
Wordcount: 749 (2/27 chapters)
Characters: Marissa Hawke, ensemble. Eventual f!Hawke/Fenris
Spoilers: Yes
Notes: It's kind of a long story.

Basically, for the last couple of weeks, many folks on Tumblr have been writing A-Z fics exploring a Dragon Age character. One fic for each letter of the alphabet, prompts chosen by the author. I had been wanting to participate but not inspired until chorus last night, when it occurred to me that I could combine this project with an idea I've long pondered: writing fic inspired by the language and notation of classical music. Before rehearsal was over, I'd already decided on a dozen words and a half-dozen plot ideas for Marissa Hawke, my aggressive mage PC; as soon as I got home, I sat down and wrote two of them, and thus was a story born.

On Tumblr / On AO3

And if you want to check the fabulous work other people are doing, there's a master post on Tumblr, linked above, and a collection on AO3.

Wrapping up my crossposting for the year! Some Tumblrfic, one for the random prompt generator, one for the [livejournal.com profile] dragon_age weekly prompt meme, and one for [livejournal.com profile] dragonage_kink. All links go to AO3.

Title: A Different Time, A Different Place
Rating: Explicit
Characters: Marian Hawke/Anders, Isabela, Sigrun, Oghren, Varric
Spoilers: For the Act Three quests "Finding Nathaniel" and "Justice".
Notes: Written for a prompt on the kink meme (note: full prompt contains Act Three spoilers). "Anders may not have parted with the Wardens on good terms, but he does seem to remember the Awakening crew in a positive light.... How do you deal with knowing that people who are separated from your lover by several years and an ocean seem to do more for his peace of mind than you can?" Catnip to me for several reasons.

"It was just another day in The Hanged Man, until the front door opened to admit two dwarves in Grey Warden armor."

---

Title: Desperate Times
Rating: Teen (for violence)
Characters: Marissa Hawke/Fenris, Justice, Anders, Danarius
Spoilers: For the Act Three quest "Alone".
Notes: Totally sprang out of my head during the Marissa Hawke game. An AU about what might have happened if a mage Hawke, in love with Fenris, had lost him to Danarius. This might be the first chapter of a longer story someday.

After she loses the battle with Danarius, how far will Hawke go to get Fenris back?

---

Title: Mutual
Rating: General
Characters: Alistair/Sereda Aeducan, Nathaniel Howe
Spoilers: Implied for Alistair and Nathaniel backstory
Notes: Inspired by a ficbit I wrote for [tumblr.com profile] minorearth and her response fic, regarding Nathaniel and Alistair and how they might react to each other. Those bits were from Nathaniel's POV; I wanted to take a look at Alistair's side.

"Nathaniel Howe doesn't much care for me, does he?"

---
Title: Brotherhood
Rating: General
Characters: Alistair, Carver
Spoilers: Through the end of Act Two.
Notes: Another one I was seized to write while playing Marissa Hawke's story. I have become quite entranced with Carver and hope to explore his character much more in the future. And I love the idea of Alistair serving as a mentor figure to him.

Carver faces down his past; Alistair deals with the fallout.

---

Title: No Salvation
Rating: General
Characters: Lord Harrowmont, Sereda Aeducan. Unrequited Harrowmont > Aeducan
Spoilers: For the Dwarf Noble Origin
Notes: Inspired by the Dragon Age Drabbles random prompt generator on Tumblr. The prompt was "Lord Harrowmont/The Warden, forbidden fruit". This might be my new headcanon.

Lord Pyral Harrowmont has done all he can for the exile.

Unless something strange happens tomorrow, this is it for me and fic in 2011. And what a year it has been! Watch for my various wrap-up posts tomorrow or the next day.
owlmoose: (cookies)
As promised, now that I've finished and posted both of my gift fics, here they are! As with the arts, one is DA:O and the other is DA2. Both are holiday-themed and rated G.

Title: The Way to a Woman's Heart
Characters: Alistair/Elissa Cousland, Leliana, Zevran, Wynne
Spoilers: Yes
Notes: Secret Swooper fic for the [livejournal.com profile] swooping_is_bad exchange. Written for [livejournal.com profile] dasque, who requested Alistair/Cousland. Based on an idea that's been rattling around my brain since a [livejournal.com profile] dragon_age Tuesday prompt meme a few weeks, back; that prompt was "You did what?!"

Alistair makes Elissa a gift, with some unexpected results.

On LJ / On AO3

Title: Like a Glove
Characters: Fenris, Garrett Hawke, Anders, DA2 cast. Gen, with shades of Anders/Fenris.
Spoilers: Through Act One, and for Fenris's backstory.
Notes: Written for the Tumblr Secret Santa exchange. My giftee was [tumblr.com profile] brelaina. This one was tough for me to get going on, but once I got rolling, I had a lot of fun with it. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] muggy_mountain for helping me bounce ideas around!

Hawke sets up a gift exchange among his friends, and Fenris draws the very last name he wanted to see.

Whew! This was really fun, but now I want to back away from projects for a little while. It feels like I've been on some deadline or another for months on end. ([community profile] newgameplus, [community profile] megaflare_ff, NaBloWriMo, these exchanges, other things I'm sure I'm forgetting.) Time to focus on wrapping up WIPs and playing around in low-pressure prompt communities. Or so I can tell myself, until the next shiny project/exchange comes along...

Something I seem to do when I get into a new fandom: write a lot of ficbits to prompts. It mostly happened in my journal with FFX/X-2, and in places like the Kissing Battle and FFEX for FFXII, but Dragon Age has a number of ongoing prompt sources, and I've been having fun playing around with them. Here are some of the shorts I've generated in the last couple of months, reposted to AO3 as a series I'm calling Pieces of Thedas. Gen unless otherwise specified, rated K /mild T.

Title: Based on Actual Events
Characters: Varric
Prompt: Writer's block

Varric shook his head and drew the pen through the words, two dark black lines. "That doesn't sound like her at all."
---

Title: About the Weather
Characters: Alistair, Sereda Aeducan. Pre-relationship.
Prompt: "Can your 'science' explain why it rains?"

Sereda is still getting used to life on the surface.
---

Title: Bedtime Story
Characters: Morrigan
Prompt: "Tell me a story."
Notes: Spoilers for Morrigan, post-game

"That's a good story, Mother. Is it true?"
---

Title: Gallows Coup
Characters: Thrask, f!Hawke
Prompt: DA2: Things we wish we could have done in game
Notes: AU. Spoilers through Act 3.

"There's only one way to keep Kirkwall from descending into bloody chaos, and you know what it is."
---

Title: Fallen to Rise
Characters: Anora
Prompt: "Do you hear the people sing?"
Notes: Spoilers for the Redeemer Ending.

The Queen stands alone, unseeing, at the palace window, hearing the celebration from high above.

Title: Wardens of Ivalice, Part One: The Joining
Fandoms: Dragon Age & Final Fantasy XII
Rating: T
Wordcount: 26,909
Characters: Ashe, Balthier, Basch, Fran, Elissa Cousland, Alistair, Nathaniel Howe, Alim Surana, many others.
Pairings: Ashe/Balthier, Alistair/Cousland. For now.
Spoilers: For FFXII and Dragon Age: Origins. Includes characters from Awakening but no major spoilers. No references to DA2.
Notes: So here it is, unleashed upon the world at last: my giant crossover of doom. I've never attempted a crossover of this magnitude before, so I hope it works. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me to take this direction, and to all my IM friends who haven't played Dragon Age but put up with my babbling and idea-flings regardless. Enjoy!

Summary: Two years after war's end, Queen Ashe is confronted with a new threat: an invading darkspawn army, bursting from underground caverns throughout the world. Fortunately for Ivalice, Warden-Commander Elissa Cousland and her team of Grey Wardens are not far behind.

Title: The Waiting
Fandom: FFXII
Rating: T
Wordcount: 5545
Characters: Penelo, Larsa, Vaan
Pairings: Larsa/Penelo, Penelo/Vaan, shades of Larsa/Penelo/Vaan
Spoilers: Not really
Notes: Set some years post canon (Larsa is 16). Written for [personal profile] nal_rene, who asked for Larsa comforting Penelo after Vaan does something dangerous and stupid. Fairly fluffy, for me anyway. I have long loved this threesome, but this was the first time I ever had the opportunity to write it. It was great fun!

Fandom: FFX-2
Rating: PG-13
Wordcount: ~11,000 (Chapter 5); ~1,000 (Epilogue)
Characters: Beclem, Nooj, Maroda, Isaaru, Elma, Lucil
Notes: It's done.

Chapter Five: On FF.net / On AO3
Epilogue: On FF.net / On AO3

I feel like I should be making some grand prediction about when the next chapter will finally be ready... but there is no next chapter. Hooray! Thanks, once again, to [personal profile] renay for being my beta, and also to Yuna Flowering, wherever you are, for providing the initial inspiration, and to anyone and everyone who has put up with the long, slow, tortuous waits between chapters. Over four years from posting the first chapter to writing the final word, but it's finally here, and I am so happy to be finished. :)
owlmoose: (da - alistair)
I suppose this was inevitable, really.

Title: Tainted Dreams
Fandom: Dragon Age: Origins
Rating: PG-13
Wordcount: 10,161
Pairings: Alistair/Female Cousland
Spoilers: Yes, for all of Origins. May not be compliant with Awakening or the DLC.
Notes: Written for the [community profile] newgameplus reversathon. The prompt, which was from [personal profile] wallwalker, was this: "If you romance a non-hardened Alistair as anyone BUT Cousland, and he becomes king, he'll say that he can't continue the romance because he has to have an heir, and both parents having the taint is too much a risk. Apply this statement to Alistair and Lady Cousland, once Alistair is king and the two are married. They produce an heir, but there's something... wrong, somehow. What's going on, and how do they deal with it?"

DW version / AO3 Version

This prompt... oh my god this prompt. It sat up and grabbed me and ate my soul. I wrote ten thousand words in five days, and it would probably have gone even faster if I hadn't needed to take a break to finish some things for FFEX. It has everything: tasty angst, a chance to explore a major detail of canon and to imagine what the world might look like after the game was over, my shiny new OTP (because let's face it, Alistair/Warden is so my OTP for this game, and quickly becoming one of my favorite pairings ever). How was I supposed to resist?

So I suppose writing a 10k-word fic in less than two weeks (and having an almost-finished WIP in my back pocket, ready to post in a few days) is a sign that I have a new fandom, and I would love to start meeting people. I've been a little leery of just jumping in to communities, though, because I'm a game and a half behind and worried about tramping into a den of spoilers. Does anyone have recommendations for newbie-friendly comms (on DW or LJ) that have a good culture of spoiler cuts, and won't mind someone who wants to talk about older content?

Title: The Serpentry
Fandom: FFX-2
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 3,743
Characters: Isaaru, Baralai, Pacce. Shades of Baralai/Isaaru.
Spoilers: For New Yevon's backstory.
Notes: Written for the [community profile] newgameplus remix challenge, based on The Inland Taipan by [archiveofourown.org profile] swordofrebecca, which is, in turn, a metafic of a story by [livejournal.com profile] rabbitprint. All part of the circle of fannish life. Many thanks to [personal profile] renay for betaing!

I enjoyed writing this. Interestingly, this is the second story I've written featuring Isaaru this year, when he was a character I'd never really worked with before this. Coincidence or trend? Only time will tell.

"It took some hours of walking -- out of the temple, out of Bevelle, and well into the Calm Lands -- before Isaaru had enough distance to think clearly again."

It is here! Final Fantasy Exchange! Sign-ups open in a couple of weeks! Hooray!

Also, the Chocobo Down lists are up, finally giving me the kick I needed to finish a story that I started as Moogle Fluff lo these many moons ago.

Title: Hidden Treasures
Fandom: FFXII
Rating: G
Wordcount: 1514
Characters: Fran, Balthier, Ashe. Ashe/Balthier
Spoilers: Not really, although it is set post game.
Notes: Written for Chocobo Down, DOINK! 2010. Prompt was "Balthier/Ashe. Balthier (and Fran) goes to steal some treasure and found that it was a trap (!) and that Queen Ashelia was waiting for them at the end."

Fran brushed the tendril of moss aside with the tip of her knife as she moved further into the dimness, Balthier but a few steps behind, his boots crunching against the loose gravel. This branch of the Zertinan Caverns was well-explored, but the Garif merchant seemed convinced: the rumors of an undiscovered cache of ancient Moogle artifacts came from a reliable source.
