Commuting

As I was walking to my car today, it occurred to me that I won't be doing that much longer. Not as part of my daily commute, anyway. Instead, I'll be hopping on the Muni, which for part of my trip is a subway. There's a part of me that's always wanted to take the subway to work; somehow, it just seems like it ought to be a part of the urban experience. And now, or in two weeks anyway, I will.

Ah, the little things.

Now you really will have to learn to knit. :)

What a lovely treat! Learn to knit so that you can be Mme. Defarge and sit in the gallery at the Hague watching the war crimes trials and chuckling with evil glee. This is what you were meant to do! ;)

Nah, the trip's not long enough. Something like 15 minutes, if things are running slowly. I shall continue to resist. ;)

Not you, too! The whole world is conspiring to convince me to learn the knitting craft.

My mother would be thrilled. Maybe that's eason enough to continue my resistance. ;)

personally I use my commute to read... I think knitting needles might be a bit dangerous in a NYC subway :)

That's why you use circular needles and not straight ones. The pointy hard parts fit in your hand, not much larger than a pen.

Never got the hang of knitting. There is, of course, crochet. Use to do that a gazillion years ago... :)

How about tatting? Nobody much does it anymore and you can always go all classy and say you are lace-making. The little shuttle is kind of cute and fits nicely in the hand like a shiv. ;)

I do a lot of different fiber arts. Never got the hang of tatting. And I inherited a TON of vintage balls of tatting fibers.

There is so much I could knit in 15 minutes. You lack dedication!

My great-aunt taught me and I persevered to impress the chap I was dating at the time. He was the heir to a few blocks of downtown Calcutta - a Sikh who was mightily enamoured of a delicate little lady who could produce lacy edging for her own handkerchiefs. He wore a spiffy turban and had the most gorgeous smile you ever saw. My family adored him and kept hinting I should read up on the sub-continent. Hah!

Hey, I don't know how to knit either, so don't worry about it :) We're in the same boat

Yes! Learn to knit! You can always knit things that would shock your mother, if you need to resist. Besides, you live in the same city as Artfibers, which has some really gorgeous hand-dyed silk yarn.

Thank god, someone who's not trying to lure me. ;)

Even worse! (For me.) So delicate and detail-oriented. In all seriousness, I am the least crafty person on the face of the earth. I can string beads, but only on wire because I'm not dexterous enough to tie little knots in string. I am content with that, and with admiring the handwork of others. ;)

I have to admit the shiv image is amusing though. As is your story about the Sikh lad.

I followed [livejournal.com profile] luvmoose to Artfibers once, and their stuff is indeed gorgeous. But I find the idea of craft supplies much more appealing than the thought of actually using them....
