television question

So if the bouncing and squeeing on the FList is any indication, the season finale of Veronica Mars was tonight and it was a hum-dinger.

Now for the love of whoever please don't tell me anything about it. I've only watched Season One and am almost entirely unspoiled for later developments, and I would dearly love to keep it that way. But do any of you fans out there happen to know if there's a release date on the Season Two DVDs yet? Please say yes. Please say it's soon.

Like, oh, tomorrow maybe?

Okay, maybe that's a bit much to ask. Next week, perhaps. I suppose that would be soon enough.

I don't know an actual date but the DVDs don't usually come out until the next season has started. So, I'd wager it's sometime in October.

Sorry. ^^

...actually, according to Amazon.com, it's 22 August. So, yay!

I haven't seen a single episode of VM, but given the multitude of posts, I think I may have to go back and watch them all...

One of these days I need to borrow season 1 from S. I've been trying to work my way through some of my back-piles of books-to-read, though.

Oh good. Don't scare me like that! ;)

I couldn't find it on Amazon earlier today; maybe they were holding the information until the season finale this evening.

Thanks much for the info!!

The first season, which I inhaled a couple of months ago, was so, so good. And I think you in particular would really like it. I recommend it highly.

No problem, LOL! I have S2 on my Netflix queue already and it wasn't showing a date either, so I had to check Amazon.com.

Shows usually do wait pretty darn close to the beginning of Season X+1 before they release Season X on DVD -- although with the upsurge in downloadable episodes on iPod that might change. It's always Oct/Nov for Stargate seasons because the season has to start its run in syndication before it comes out on DVD.

I missed half of S2 myself; I want it now! LOL.

My to-read pile is huge and growing (S loaned me the Suzanne Brockman books recently, which doubled it in a single moment; I just finished "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell" -- literally, a few minutes ago -- and I think I'm going to try those next), but I took a couple of weekends to watch VM instead and it was so worth it. It's truly an excellent show.

When I finished S1 my first urge was to run to the iTunes store and see if they had the next season. But they didn't, alas.

Yeah, I guess they think it's better to build momentum for the new season that way. Which I suppose I can understand. But still. Don't they know they have addicts to satisfy? ;)

Yeah, I'm going to be cutting back or cancelling my Netflix service soon. I figure that will be a good time to start borrowing videos from folks.

I doubt you'll want to read all the Suzanne Brockmann in one go. I like them, and was obsessive in reading them all, but I still think I took a break somewhere in the middle. Certain aspects of them can get repetitious (a risk for any series, certainly).

What else is in your pile?

Pile report is now up here. :)

So I figure it's time for my annual comment, since I'm mentioned a couple of times in this thread :^)

First, a whine. As the result of a mistake of mine, and not Tivo's (can't bash Tivo), my Tivo failed to record last night's Veronica Mars session finale. The episode's being repeated on Sunday, so I'm not totally freaking out, but it's close. I can't believe I have to wait another 5 days to find out what happened. Plus, I have to make sure I carefully regulate my internet consumption so I don't accidently find out what happens.

Which brings me to - a warning. Stay off salon.com for the next couple of days if you want to remain spoiler free. They have an article about Veronica Mars up, and the subtitle of the article (found on the homepage) revealed way more than I wanted to know about the ending.

I have also heard the August 22 release date for the season 2 DVD. I've been thinking that it would be fun to have a communal watching/rewatching of the season 1 DVD this summer, probably as a weekly weeknight get together for takeout and then the watching of an episode or two. Any interest?

Thanks for the Salon warning, it would never have occured to me that it might be a danger.

Any interest?

Very much yes! Could we watch Season 2 also?

[identity profile] slsmallets.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course we can watch season 2 - just not until August 22 (grumble, grumble, grumble).
