Chocolate... find?

One of the thing about being a cashier at Borders is that there are truffles on the counter -- we sell Lindt Lindor Balls in several flavors. I love Lindt truffles. Well, I love Lindt generally. Okay, fine, it's chocolate, all of it, everywhere. But Lindt dark chocolate truffles are on the "particularly fond of" chocolate list. So I have to look at them every time I work, often for several hours at a time. Naturally, chocolate cravings result. Today, I was out and about on appointments (hair salon, dentist) and I happened to be not too far from a Cost Plus. Cost Plus often carries Lindor truffle bars, so I stopped by. They didn't have the dark chocolate, but they did have something else: a special holiday blend. This truffle bar was made of milk chocolate, filled with chocolate-hazelnut ganache, and flavored with cardamom and cinnamon. I could not pass up such an intriguing combination, so I bought it.

Upon popping a piece of the bar into my mouth, the first word that came into my head to describe the flavor was "fascinating!" The chocolate taste came first, followed immediately and quite strongly by the cardamom. The cinnamon flavor was much more subtle, and I didn't taste the hazelnut until enough of the chocolate shell had melted away to bring out the ganache. Incredibly dense and complex flavor. I'm not sure I could say whether I liked it, but it was quite a taste experience, definitely worth trying.

I also picked up a bag of raspberry Lindor balls, and no ambivalence there. Yum.

There's a unique chocolate shop in Santa Cruz (blanking on the name just this second, but it's on Mission St.) which has many odd flavors of chocolates. I had a cardamom flavored chocolate from there last month. I really liked it, but then, I really like cardamom, so that's not a huge surprise.

Heh, and I think I won't tell you about the second thing that came to mind.

Evil, now I really want chocolate, and I ate my last Valrhona bar yesterday.

The Lindt stores have been carrying a special truffle - white chocolate, with little dark flecks in it, white choc center. Divine. They come in light blue packaging, and only at Lindt stores. They also have a less fascinating holiday truffle - milk shell, white center.

Yes. It's a huge occupational hazard of working at The Big B - the constant presence of Lindor balls. And high-sugar but oh so delicious cafe espresso beverages.

How's the seasonal cashiering going? I thought of you last night when I went to my Borders and there were so many people I didn't know. Seasonal temps, of course.

Heh heh heh, my plan to make everyone else want chocolate as badly as I do has worked!

I'll have to check out that Santa Cruz shop some day (although somehow I haven't gotten to Santa Cruz in years, how did that happen?).

We don't have any Lindt stores out here, boo. (I looked up "stores near me" on the website, and it gave me a bunch of Longs Drugs; I guess they're the offical carrier out here.) But that's probably okay in this case, I'm not the hugest white chocolate person anyway.

Oh good, it's not just me. :)

It's going pretty well. My feet still kill at the end of every shift but otherwise I'm liking it. I don't know if I could work as a permanent cashier, though -- it's a little mind-numbing, especially when business is slow. I was scheduled to shelve for an hour one day last week, and I enjoyed that much more. Also, my feet hurt less after that day -- I credit spending an hour walking and not just standing.

It's amazing how tiring just standing can be. The price of having no sales counters around while we were evolving!
