I wrote fanfic before I knew fandom/fic EXISTED, so I would definitely agree that some folk are predisposed to ficcing.

I have an odd refusal to write in certain TYPES of fandoms, though, which I intend to blog about perhaps tonight, or mayhaps tomorrow.
