My memory is escaping me, but as far as I recall, King Richard and Prince John had an older brother (Geoffrey?) who died on the throne in his early twenties. His infant son, Arthur, was sent into hiding after his father's death as Richard the Lionhearted took the throne. I suspect T.H. White combined the two Arthurs into one. I don't know if it's known what became of the twelfth century Arthur.
