Triangle man

I'm about halfway through the second season of Gilmore Girls now (just watched the basket auction episode), and I just want to say if Jess doesn't get more sympathetic soon, I'm going to get super frustrated with this love triangle, and with Rory for playing along with it. I do see how they're setting up Jess as a better match for Rory because he reads and is just generally more intellectual than Dean, and in theory I can see the appeal there. And good girl falls for bad boy with secret heart of gold is a classic story. But Jess pushes all my buttons, and not in a good way: he's a thug who seems to have very little regard for the people around him, he's mean to everyone except for Rory, and he's been trying to nag her into liking him from almost the moment he appeared. Now, I am not entirely down with Dean and his jealous streak, either, but who is to say that Rory needs to be with either of them? I'm also suspicious that part of Jess's attraction to Rory is because it gives him the opportunity to needle Dean, which also bothers me: shouldn't Rory be more than a pawn in a turf war? I have to admit, right now I'm really hoping for an "I choose me" moment from her.

Several of my friends who've watched GG are Jess/Rory 'shippers, so I'm willing to watch with an open mind that Jess calms down and becomes more worthy of her. For the moment, though, I'm finding it a little hair-tearing.

Also, I was warned from the beginning that I was going to be shouting "Just kiss already!" at the screen a lot, but still. Dear Lorelei: please realize that you are head over heels for Luke. I can't believe how dense she is about that. Although I have to admit, I like her with Christopher, too. It's sort of the opposite of how I feel about Rory and her two love interests.

At least Sookie and Jackson are completely adorable. They have angst, yes, but it's believable and easily resolved, and I hope they stay together. They make for a nice spot of stability and sanity in the romantic chaos around them.

Hee! Gilmore Girls is one of my favorite shows, and I'm glad you're still enjoying it. Season 2 is when I started watching it, so it's pretty near and dear to my heart.

1) Jess bugs me in SEason 2. I know he's popular in the fandom, and I think he gets more tolerable later, but this season? He managed to hit one of my nerves. He has a lot of issues (they're kinda expanded upon this season and waaaaay later down the line).

I think part of the reason he bugs me now is because of how much Rory's story centers around her drama with both boys. I like her because she reads and is an introvert and because Lane's a pretty cool best friend. I could honestly care less about her boy drama. I didn't care all that much when I saw it back when it was first airing either...come to think of it.

2) Sookie and Jackson are kind of adorably geeky together. I also like how stable they are in comparison to the mess that are both Lorelai's personal lives. ;D

3) I cannot stand Christopher. I think it's partially the actor and partially his treatment of Rory, but he character really bothers me much of the time! I think he was mostly OK in Season 2 (and he does have good chemistry with Lorelai then), but ...eh. Not a fan in general~

4) Heh. Luke and Lorelai are kind of frustrating like that for most of the series. Sometimes it's cute, sometimes it's just annoying. XD;

Lorelai is adorable with almost everybody she's with, personally as much as I <3 Luke I have a big soft spot for Max too... all I can say is that the Luke/Lorelai moments in season 4/5 are totally adorable, there's more of them coming for you :)... Gilmore Girls is one of my favorite shows ever :)

Ooh, so yes on #1. I am so much more interested in Rory when her plotlines focus on her friendship with Lane, or her competitiveness with Paris. But the advent of this love triangle means that the focus is so often on Jess, or Dean, or even worse, Jess vs. Dean, which reduces Rory to a prize to be fought over. It bugs me.

I liked Max, but I thought the whole rushing into marriage thing was ridiculous. Especially when it was so clear from the beginning that she was never going through with it.

I just watched the episode where Lorelai and Chris have that big fight in Luke's diner, and I loved how Luke is framed over Christopher's shoulder while he's yelling at her. It was a great touch.
