When the obvious isn't

You would think that some things go without saying. For example, that it's a bad idea to try and bring a hand grenade onto an airplane.

You would be wrong.

The scariest thing is that many of the comments to that post are reaming the TSA for spending time protecting passengers from fake or inert grenades or other objects that turn out not to be totally, utterly lethal.

Because, you know, it's our RIGHT to bring gag gift grenades into the cabin.

Sprinkle in a couple comments from people claiming their constitutional rights are being violated for having their comments deleted on someone's blog. Because it's their RIGHT to hog server space on someone else's blog!

Sylvester McCoy's Doctor Who summarized it best back in my sophomore year of college: "Humans!"

Or as my boss likes to say, "Humans are doomed."

I do agree that there are points to be made about TSA as security theater, designed more to make us feel safe than to actually make flying safer. But fake hand grenades seems to me an odd place to take a stand.
