i now wonder if treating any humanoid-but-not-human species technically would count as veterinary medicine.

This is an excellent question. I have this idea the concept of "xenomedicine" comes up at some point -- I know they discuss xenobiology, and it would seem to parallel. But maybe the difference is merely semantic....
