Lyrics game for a Friday

You all know the drill. Guess the songs from the first lines. iTunes et. al. yes, Google no. No duplicate artists. Includes my first attempt at a theme section! Answers for last week.

  1. Switch off the mind and let the heart decide
who you were meant to be
Flick to remote and let the body glide
    There is no enemy
    - "Windpower", Thomas Dolby, unguessed

  2. This is a story of seven brothers - "Love is Stronger Than Justice", Sting, [livejournal.com profile] madlori
  3. I recommend getting your heart trampled on to anyone - "You Learn", Alanis Morissette, [livejournal.com profile] madlori

  4. We were at a party
His ear lobe fell in the deep
Someone reached in and grabbed it - "Rock Lobster", B-52s, [livejournal.com profile] grue23

  5. I know you deceived me
    Couldn't sleep last night
Now my tearstains on the wall reflect an ugly sight
I can see your secrets -- They Might Be Giants, [livejournal.com profile] grue23, "The World's Address", [livejournal.com profile] peachespig

  6. And I was lost for words in your arms
Attempting to make sense of my aching heart - "Not Enough Time", INXS, [livejournal.com profile] angeltaisha

  7. You see me in a foreign face
In ships that sink without trace - "The Advesary", Crime and the City Solution, [livejournal.com profile] grue23

These songs have something in common. Guess the songs, guess the theme

  1. I can hear the soft breathing of the girl that l love
As she lies here beside me, asleep with the night

[identity profile] madlori.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha Ha! I am ze first guesser!

2 is "Love is Stronger than Justice" by Sting
3 is "You Live, You Learn" by Alannis Morrisette (I may have the title slightly wrong)
8 is Clocks. Duh.

c of your theme is '97 Bonnie and Clyde by Eminem, or Tori Amos if you prefer.

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
9) U2 - A Sort of Homecoming

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I will give you 3 since you gave more than the full title. Clocks is by what band? ;)

I have the Tori Amos version of the song. Also I am in love with your icon.

[identity profile] madlori.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
The Tori version is infinitely creepy, although Eminem's original is pretty brilliant, too.

Heh. Clocks. Uh...that's Keane, right? Heh.

Try this icon on for size. All us Mawrter chicks ought to have it.

[identity profile] madlori.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, okay. Clocks is by COLDPLAY. Satisfied? :-D

[identity profile] freudian-slip.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
b is REM pop song '89

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

I have seen that icon before and love it; may I steal?

This is my latest mew icon and I am quite fond of it.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed it is.

So does Amy send you over here when she doesn't know any of the songs? :)

[identity profile] freudian-slip.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
she always tells me about this stuff, heh.

[identity profile] madlori.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. Steal away. Check my userpics page for the crediting, I don't recall it offhand.

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
10) Peter Gabriel - "Family Snapshot"

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
e) "1963", New Order

Damn, that's tricky.

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
theme: songs with years in the title

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Close but not quite. Someone will have to get one of the other two songs I think.

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
where's the party like it's 1999!!!?

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
A. Too obvious.
B. I don't have it.

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww. Do you have "1985" by SR-71?

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Songs with time in the title?

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't think so.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Close enough for government work. ;) I'll give it to you.

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Debbie just hit the wall
she never had it all
one Prozac a day
husband's a CPA
her dreams went out the door
when she turned 24
only been with one man
what happend to her plan
she was gonna be an actress
she was gonna be a star
she was gonna shake that ass
on the hood of Whitesnake's car
now her yellow SUV has now become the enemy
looks at her average life and nothing has been all right

since Springstien Madonna
way before Nirvana
there was U2 and Blondie
and music still on MTV
her two kids in high school
they tell her that she's uncool
'cause she's still preocupied
with 19, 19, 1985

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that song! I've heard it on the radio but I don't have it. That's a fun song.

[identity profile] madlori.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds fun, but it actually kind of depresses me. It's all about some woman stuck back in her high-school glory days of 1985 who can't live in the now and yearns for the Good Old Days.

I hate that mentality. It's just a way to displace and avoid living one's life as it is.

/sanctimonious rant

[identity profile] helianthemum.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
#1 is familiar but it's just not coming to me... oh well. Maybe I'll get it with the second line. :)

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I see where you're coming from, definitely. There's a fine line between nostalgia and living in the past.

You are just pulling out all the awesome userpics today.

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
7) Crime and the City Solution - "The Advesary"

[identity profile] angeltaisha.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi! I hope you don't mind my posting here. I wanted to guess one or two. This is a nifty game!

Number 6 is from 'Not Enough Time' by INXS
and letter 'd' is from 'Twelve Thirty (Young girls are coming to the canyon)' by the Mama's and the Papa's. I was staring at that one for like, ten minutes before it hit me, Heh heh.

May I friend your journal if it's no trouble?

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Not at all -- anyone can play! Friends of friends often drop by. Many other people on my flist do these if you want to browse for more.

May I friend your journal if it's no trouble?

Of course you may. :)

[identity profile] angeltaisha.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course you may. :)

Thanks a lot! You can also friend mine if you like, although I am not sure what kind of riveting things you may read on my journal, LOL! OH! I had a question about this game; How many songs can one answer? just for future reference.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
No limit -- as many as you can get. [livejournal.com profile] peachespig has been known to practically run the table (although I note that he hasn't gotten any yet this week).

I had been thinking about friending you anyway, so cool. :)

[identity profile] angeltaisha.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! I'm such a sucker for these music games. I look forward to next weeks one.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-08 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
If you don't want to wait, I know both [livejournal.com profile] peachespig and [livejournal.com profile] helianthemum both have unanswered lines right now. Everyone who does these without locking them always invites anyone to play so feel free to check them out. Have fun!!

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-10-09 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
4) B52's - Rock Lobster.

Now I bet you'll tell me that the one I'm certain to know is still unsolved. ;)

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-09 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I bet you'll tell me that the one I'm certain to know is still unsolved. ;)

Yup. The torture continues.

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-10-10 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
5) Is They Might Be Giants, and I might have the song when I'm more coherent.

[identity profile] peachespig.livejournal.com 2005-10-10 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's "The World's Address".

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-10 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] grue23 is gonna strangle me. Or possibly you. Or maybe both of us. ;)

That icon cracks me up completely.

[identity profile] peachespig.livejournal.com 2005-10-10 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
What? He posted the artist, I'm helping him out. He knew the risks, dammit! ;)

Thanks on the icon. I made it my little self, disturbingly enough. Where incriminating baseball photos and snarky fanfic acronyms collide, the result can only be hilarious.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-10 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just that I've been tormenting him for days with the knowledge that he should know this one. So to have someone else pull it out at the last second... :)

Kevin Millar is often comedy gold all by himself. Is that Varitek with him?

[identity profile] peachespig.livejournal.com 2005-10-10 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
So to have someone else pull it out at the last second... :)

Someone gotta learn the boy that life ain't fair. ;)

Kevin Millar is often comedy gold all by himself. Is that Varitek with him?

Oh yes. The man Carson Kressley called "Quadzilla". The captain's "C" on his jersey is a giveaway!

[identity profile] luvmoose.livejournal.com 2005-10-11 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
for the record, I could have gotten the Dolby if I hadn't been walking! :)
