It's like the old adage that there's nothing better for book sales than protest or banning, because everyone wants to find out what the fuss is about...

Is it sad that it doesn't surprise me that a "best of" list that's super white, male, and heteronormative raises no controversy, but when a list of feminist books comes out suddenly everyone comes out of the woodwork to point out all the ways in which it's not feminist enough, or in the right way?

I can understand why authors asked to be removed, although I equally understand why the magazine didn't do it -- a list like this isn't "for" the authors, after all, it's for prospective readers.
