I haven't finished FFVI yet, and haven't gotten to the World of Ruin, so I can't really comment on the game as a whole. I agree, though, that so far it doesn't seem like the game has a single protagonist. Having two women among the headliners of the ensemble definitely represents progress in that aspect, but I think it's still fair to say that either FFX or FFX-2 is the first game with a sole female protagonist.
