media potpourri

I downloaded some free image manipulation software the other day so I could fool around with making userpics. This is one of my latest; SE gave me the idea and I couldn't resist. I'm lousy at it, but it's fun.

So the local Borders (local to my work, not to my home) is having an educator sale, where all local employees of schools and colleges get a 25% discount off books and music. Tomorrow is the last day, and I am contemplating dropping by at lunchtime. I already went on Friday and picked up a couple of things, but sales such as this are difficult for me to resist. Anyone have any suggestions? Is there any CD that I simply cannot live another day without? (You can look back through my music memes for an idea of my tastes. Also classical and movie scores, which won't come up in a song lyrics game. Book suggestions are also welcomed, but my to-read pile is already a mile high, and it will all be put on hold on November 8th anyway.)

Speaking of the music game, a heads up. New one tomorrow, Tuesday 10/18, probably around 8:30 am Pacific. Be there or be some dull, un-hip shape.

Finally, if you do not wish to die of cuteness, you should probably not click here.

That icon is hysterical! *dies* Oh, and in case you haven't noticed, I have a TON of homemade, crappy icons. It's a lot of fun to do, although I'm sure I should be banned from doing it, LOL.

Thanks! It was fun to make.

I think your userpics are cute. Especially Tot-zilla; I laugh at it every time.

LOL! Thanks.

That kitten is deadly.

Hm. The only music I can recommend are soundtracks- I'm hoping I get the one for FFX-2 for Christmas. Pirates of the Caribbean and a little Star Wars wouldn't go amiss either. On the books side, if you like fantasy, try the Old Kingdom Trilogy by Garth Nix (Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen). Or if you like more contemporary, try what I have dubbed the "Scarecrow Books" by Matthew Reilly (Ice Station, Area 7, and Scarecrow). 3 of the quotes I have on my FF.net profile (the 2nd, 4th, and 5th) come from those books.

Isn't it just? A friend sent me that link and I knew I had to share it.

I love most of the Final Fantasy music, but the X-2 soundtrack doesn't do as much for me (though I do adore the opening theme). Too poppy, not enough majesty. Star Wars is a good idea, though; I don't have any of those. And I will look into those books as well. Thanks!

I see you have joined the cult. Welcome. The FSM pics are grand.

When you mentioned November, at first I thought you were going to do NaNoWriMo. Have you ever done it? You could handle it in a heartbeat as inventive as your writer's mind is.

You should buy the new DM because it's out today. And you getting it at a 25% discount will balance the fact that I'm buying it on iTunes now because I can't wait and will also buy the physical CD later today.

Thanks. I like yours, too. The whole Pastafarian thing amuses me to death.

NaNoWriMo. Have you ever done it?

I haven't. Fiction writing is something I've only come back to very recently, within the last year or so. I did toy with the idea last year, since I was unemployed and had the time, but I didn't get my act together to sit down and do it. This year I most definitely do not have time -- my life is busy this fall and winter, and I can barely work in the fanfic, which is my top creative priority right now. Someday, maybe. Thanks for your confidence. :)

That's an idea, although as a new release it will probably be on sale anyway.

Listening to it yet? How is it?
