I already suspect that I'm talking about something different: I was talking about classic story structures from the west and east plus modern/postmodern story structures (and, thus, having a story structure for everyone) rather than making the player happy. But I'll have more to say later. ^^
As an aside, I'm not sure I agree with "you can get an ending that is happy for Alistair and the player or one that is happy for Ferelden, but not both" for a variety of reasons but I should read the essay first.
