feel the burn

After a nearly two-year hiatus, I went back to the aqua aerobics class at the local YMCA today. As soon as I stepped in the pool, I started wondering why I ever stopped. Aqua is easily the best workout I've ever had -- it's easier on my joints than regular aerobics, almost as soothing as yoga but with cardio, and an overall better exercise experience than riding the exercise bike. Also, it's the only way I've ever been able to lose weight on purpose (being too sick to eat doesn't count).

Getting back into it was easier than I expected. I could certainly tell that I was working muscles that hadn't been used that hard in ages, especially in my legs, but it got easier as the half-hour wore on (this class is about 30 minutes of cardio and 15 of cool-down and stretching). I'm pretty tired, but in the good, invigorated way, and not too sore (although we'll see if I take that back in the morning). I truly hope to keep it up for more than three months this time.

hair question

Do you find that the chlorine in the water interacts badly with your hair? I've been wondering if I ought to invest in a swim cap.

I never noticed a problem with my hair and Minnie has never said anything. And to be honest, my hair never gets soaking. But it makes my fingernails really brittle and eats through swimsuits.

But if you're really worried, there are swimmers shampoos.
