I really like shelving. Like you say, there's something soothing about it. When I was in college, sometimes if I got stuck on a paper or something, I'd go over to the library, put on my Walkman (yes), and grab a cart. It's a way of being useful without having to think too much. :) I would also shelve sometimes at my old library, although that would often be trouble because I would run into a bookcase that was a disaster area and have to spend an hour putting it in order. Which was still kind of fun, but not *really* the best use of my time.

The magic letters were definitely the point of library school, for me. I think that's true for a lot of us.
