I hadn't seen that, so thanks for the link! I have seen Arthur Chu commenting on the Hugo slate issue on Twitter and other places; he's another interesting commenter (though he doesn't write fiction as far as I know). I'd never heard that story about the Washington Monument, pretty fascinating/terrible/instructive.
