Yeah. I mean, Tony has to have been a late-life child for Howard--given the timeline, he was probably at least in his mid-50s. It's doable, if Maria was a younger trophy-wife. But even just a few more years' down the road, it just won't be feasible. And "son of Cap's war buddy!" has resonance, but "grandson of Cap's war buddy!" not so much. You can divorce Tony Stark from the WWII tie a lot easier than you can divorce Wonder Woman from it (she came to Man's World because of a WWII pilot who crashed on her island), but even Wonder Woman can be modernized--the Bruce Timm movies did it, it's possible.
Honestly, there's "Howard Stark Cap's War Buddy!" and there's "Howard Stark Tony's Asshole Dad!" and they're not really very connected at all. Fandom makes a lot of the connection, but canon doesn't.
