I finally saw this one a couple of months ago, and I, too, preferred Ruffalo. I also felt that distance you mention, though I didn't realize exactly why until I read your post.

I would love to have Betty back in the MCU continuity. Though I suspect from that one Age of Ultron preview that she won't be.
