I have no problem agreeing to disagree! I saw the back-and-forth between bombastic and flat, as well, but I thought he was doing it on purpose -- being very very controlled in some environments, but all that masking an incredible amount of rage and vindictiveness, and suicidal fury. He was a dead man walking through the whole movie.
