Go see a Star War.
In short: I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it quite a lot.
Basically, it's a good Star Wars movie, which is exactly what I wanted it to be. In my favorite Star Wars moments post from last month, I talked about the Comic Con trailer, and how hopeful it made me in terms of showing us a universe that looked and felt like the Star Wars universe I first fell in love with. (I don't hate the prequels as much as some people do, but the shiny and bloodless CGI environments never felt right at all.) That promise was realized in almost every way, and the use of CGI and motion capture almost always enhanced that feeling, never detracted from it.
I love the new characters, and I found the movie entirely engaging. The two-plus hours pretty much flew by, even the action sequences, even the backstory bits. The pacing is just about perfect, and that's high praise from me.
I'll write a more in-depth, spoiler-laden reaction later, when more people have seen it and we can have detailed discussions. For now, I'm happy just being happy. There are complaints I could make, but I don't want to spend a whole lot of time making them yet. I'm too busy wanting to go see it again.
