Yeah, that raises some really excellent points. I mostly just find his/their ability to capitalize on literally any weird meme with buttsex to be pretty great; I agree with Jemisin that an award is totally relevant, just not a Hugo (which was more or less my reaction to the announcement that he/they'd been nominated.)

Mostly I just--don't read actively enough in SF/F anymore? Lately I've been on a huge ridiculous Regency romance kick for like a year plus and counting, and I mean, I'm not arguing with it (especially since so many of the authors currently writing are doing so in reaction to the bodice-rippers we grew up with and man there is some intensely feminist and meta romance stuff going on right now, wow, I am so pleased.) If the pendulum swings back the other way, though, I'll definitely consider participating. (in the meantime, reaction posts give me good fodder for my Amazon wishlist.)
