FogCon: Day 3

Another year, another FogCon, another enjoyable weekend of thinking and chatting. I continue to feel a growing integration with the con community -- when I spend time alone now (like at breakfast on Saturday), it's by choice rather than because I feel like I don't have anyone to talk to, and that's a nice change.

When we left our hero last night, she was deciding how to spent the rest of the evening; after a swing through the bar, which was not yet a hopping scene, I wandered up to the con suite, where I found good conversation and snacks. Today, I only went to one program item: [personal profile] forestofglory's panel on architecture and urban planning in SFF, which ended up being just as much about cities and design in our world as in fiction. This is the only panel for which I took detailed notes, but my phone ended up eating half of them, so sadly I doubt I will have the opportunity to write it up. (Not like I ever get around to doing that anyway...)

For lunch, [personal profile] forestofglory and I took our now-traditional walk to the Walnut Creek farmer's market, where I got myself some garlic bread. It was a beautiful sunny day, and nice to get out for a walk in the fresh air -- I never left the hotel on Saturday, and didn't really even see the sun after breakfast. We decided that neither of us were really into the afternoon programming offerings; we thought about going to see A Wrinkle in Time, but all the nearby theaters only had front row seats left, and we decided it wasn't worth it. Instead, I joined Jed and Mary Anne in a game of Pandemic: Rising Tide, which is a cooperative game in which you need to work with the other players to keep the Netherlands from flooding in the face of falling dikes and rising seas. We won (yay!), and then it was time to go home.

Next year's theme is Friendship, which sounds really fun. There is actually a slight chance that I will have a conflict next year, so a lot may hinge on who the honored guests are. (I was reminded today that FogCon uses this nomenclature rather than "guests of honor/GoH", which apparently is a meaningful distinction; although I don't know the specific significance, I'll try to remember to use the con's own terminology going forward.) But even if I don't make it next year, I still consider FogCon my home con, and assuming it lasts and I continue to find fandom participation value, I'm sure I always will.
