We made the excellent/questionable decision to purchase the expansion packs for Civ 6: Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm. Since Gathering Storm has all the same rule changes as Rise and Fall (I gather it's only missing a few unique leaders), we started with that and have been exploring the differences from the vanilla game(1). So far it's pretty interesting, with many new civs to learn. I started with the Maori because I was curious how it would work to start in the ocean; turns out it means you miss the first big land grab and have to work with whatever is left over, so my empire is pretty far flung. But I must be doing something right, because it's the Modern Era and I'm having my second Golden Age in a row.

I'm not sure how much longer Civ will hold my attention. Partly there just haven't been many new console games to grab me. But this does mean my Dragon Age replay plans are growing moss. Maybe soon.
