Arrowverse update: This week, I caught up on Superman & Lois (5 episodes) and Supergirl (2 episodes).
Supergirl: Just as with The Flash, it's pretty clear that they started the season by wrapping up the last. The pacing is a mess, but I suppose that's inevitable when you cram what would probably have been three or even four episodes into a single hour. I wish they'd spread it out over another episode or two, but given that this is apparently the last season, I imagine they didn't want to take that much time from whatever the final story arc will be (I can't imagine they'd spend their entire last season getting Kara out of the Phantom Zone). Given that I'm sure they had to cut a lot from the finale, I was relieved to see Brainy not only rescued but beginning to reconcile with Nia.
Superman & Lois: This is pretty good! I like how different in tone it is from the rest of the CW shows, focusing largely on a mature adult couple with mature adult problems, although we of course get our share of teen angst with the twins. I saw the twist coming where Jordan was the twin with powers a mile away, although the reverse twist of his powers not being very powerful was a surprise, and an interesting one. I will say that I keep getting distracted with trying to figure out how this show fits in with the rest of the Arrowverse, if at all. I can buy baby Jonathan suddenly being twins as a side effect of Crisis, but the age jump makes no sense at all. No mention the time they spent living in Argo City, or of Clark's cousin Kara or Lois's sister Lucy? No Kara, Lucy, or James Olson at Martha's funeral? I also find the recasting of Sam Lane and Morgan Edge really jarring -- Edge especially reads as an entirely different character than Lena Luthor's rival from past seasons of Supergirl, in ways that I can't just blame on the universes merging post-Crisis. I suspect, like many things, it would have been smoother if the 2019-20 seasons of Arrowverse had not been forced to end ahead of schedule, and I wonder what the original launch plans were.
