The Sam and Bucky Show: Ep. 5
I enjoyed this episode very much for all kinds of reasons.
Sam trying to make a genuine connection with Walker, but it devolves into a fight because that's the only way Walker knows how to relate. Sam and Bucky getting the shield back. Walker's "hearing" -- and while I still think Walker makes a terrible Captain America, as he pointed out, he's only following the path that his superiors laid out for him. It just underscores, yet again, how very lucky the world got with Steve (along with Erskine's insights into the importance of character in considering who can handle the supersoldier serum). Sam's conversation with Isaiah Bradley, Sam going home, Sam and Sarah, Sam pulling his community together to save the family business. Bucky giving Zemo to the Wakandans and just everything about that scene, beginning to end. Bucky helping with the boat -- I loved everything about Bucky helping with the boat. Sam's nephews playing with the shield, and Bucky's little smile when he catches them at it. Sam and Bucky finally having a real conversation and making the connection we've all been waiting for. Sam taking up the shield at long last (I am dying to see his costume). So many little things that added up to an enjoyable whole.
I really, really, don't understand wtf Sharon is up to, connecting Batroc with the Flag Smashers and using the opportunity to kill Sam as bait. I hope there is something coherent behind her actions, and something much better than "Sharon is evil now" because that's not a character development I'm particularly sold on.
I have a feeling that Julia Louis-Dreyfus's character is supposed to be an easter egg for comics fans, but I'm not clear on which. Anybody know?
Finale next week. It seems doable to wrap things up. I wonder what, if anything, on the movie side that this show is setting the table for.
