"And then, it was over" - Devin Tabris edition
Well, I did it. I played an ultimate sacrifice for the first time ever. Devin came to a reasonably good relationship with Morrigan, but she still doesn't trust her, and besides the situation with Alistair having just broken up with her felt way too delicate. Besides, Riordan was planning to take the final blow on the archdemon, so everything would work out just fine, right?
Nope. Alistair started off saying all these things about how sacrificing himself was what a good king would do; when Devin called him out on that not being his only reason, he freely admitted to still having feelings for her, kissed her, and ran off to go kill an archdemon. The idea that any human, any king, but especially one like Alistair, would sacrifice his life for her sake is messing her up a lot. And it doesn't help that no one in her party so much as mentioned his name afterwards except for Wynne, and that was only after Devin brought him up. So, she decided to travel with Sten -- who is, believe or not, her best friend in the party after Alistair -- and see a bit more of the world. It won't last long, though, because the Grey Wardens are going to call her back to Amaranthine, and she's going to go: regardless of anything else, she still owes her freedom to Duncan, and for that reason alone she would always do what the Wardens need her to do.
