literature tidbit

The 2006 Pulitzer Prizes have been announced. The prize for fiction went to March, which is the story of the mostly-absent father figure in Little Women.

Is it just me, or is this fanfic of a sort? Literary in nature, to be sure. But still.

What an interesting thought! I wonder how many books we can come up with which are fanfics at heart? If I remember correctly, someone took the Grand Inquisitor character (?) from "The Brothers Karamazov" and wrote a book around him. Now - that is fanfic on the grand scale. (Wish I had done that.) ;)

There's a sequel to "Wicked", too. "Son of a Witch" or something like that.

If "The Wind Done Gone" counts I think "Scarlett" should as well.

Sure, sure. I was coming at it from the "back story of other characters" angle that the two I named have.

Ah, I see your angle. There must be more like that.

I think that's where most literary fanfic would fall, either in backstory of minor characters or in sequels.

Didn't someone publish a sequel to Jane Eyre a few years back? I can't remember the title.
