Mighty hunters

A few minutes ago, I went downstairs to get something to drink and found both cats perched at the window. Normally they run over to me when I appear in the morning, or they've already come upstairs to say hello, but today I was clearly taking a distant second to something so I decided I needed a closer look. I discovered that a small fly-like creature had gotten inside, and they were stalking it quite mercilessly. Until they looked up and noticed the birds perched on the outside walls and beams. Instant attention grabber. They both started mewing and meeping and trilling and making that chattering noise -- you know the one; T tells me they have done that before, but this was the first time I've ever heard it, I think because they both do it very quietly and quickly, in a short burst.

Lexi did take a break at one point to greet me, leaning up against my legs and purring for a few seconds. Then back to cat TV. Tori is still waiting for the commercial.

Such a familiar image. Since we feed birds, chipmunks and squirrels on the front porch, our pair have an endless supply of good programming. (Like an eternity of L&O reruns.) The squirrels are particularly entertaining, having no fear of the cats at all.

We call that chattering sound 'cat barking'. ;)

That's an apt name. :)

I wish we could put out a birdfeeder, but we're on the fourth floor and have no balcony or other outdoor space, and there's nothing outside the window to hang a feeder from. So our kitties will have to be content with travelers.

Well they'll need to go to the toilet someday!
