Top 5: Tidus/Yuna 4ever (maybe)

Another question from the "Top 5" meme, from [livejournal.com profile] furitaurus: Five different ways Yuna and Tidus's future together should play out, post FFX-2.

1. Tidus comes back and it's like he never left. He and Yuna pick up where they left off at the Macalania Spring and he joins the Gullwings so they never have to be apart. They're married within a year, their first child born within two, and only occasionally do they wonder if they rushed into things too quickly.

2. Tidus comes back and he and Yuna attempt to pick up where they left off, but it's just not the same. The intense feelings brought on by the pilgrimage don't survive the mundanity of everyday life on Besaid, and after only two months they realize that they don't love each other and probably never did. After some intense conversation and contemplation, Yuna decides that she'd rather have happy memories of Tidus than an unhappy relationship with him and leaves, returning to the Gullwings. As he watches her board the ship, Tidus smiles sadly, then fades away without a sound.

3. Tidus comes back and Yuna welcomes him with open arms, but she's not quite ready to dismiss the possibility that he might disappear on her again. After a reunion that is as tearful as it is joyful, she becomes clingy and dependent, and eventually Tidus feels smothered and pulls away. He takes off for a little while, spending some time traveling around Spira, then comes back to her. Heartened that he didn't fade while he was gone, Yuna returns to her new, more confident self, and she and Tidus begin again, on more equal footing this time.

4. Tidus comes back to find a Yuna much stronger and more confident than the one he left. After a few weeks of perfect bliss, the cracks begin to show when she wants to continue sphere hunting rather than follow him to Luca to support his blitzball career. Fights and tension follow, and after one particularly loud and tearful night Yuna storms out and sets up house on the Celsius. They stay separated for about a month, after which time they realize that they miss each other desperately and take another shot at a relationship, only more slowly this time, taking the time to really get to know one another. Two years later, Yuna is ready to retire from sphere hunting and take a place in Spira's government, now headquartered in Luca. They move in together; he blitzes, she governs, and they live happily ever after.

5. When Yuna meets the fayth after the defeat of Vegnagun, she chooses the "thank you and goodbye" option, bidding Tidus a bittersweet farewell and finally committing to a life without him. It is a good life, long and happy and filled with friends, lovers, and beautiful, accomplished grandchildren. She thinks of Tidus, occasionally and with great fondness, as the one that could have been, but she is content with her choice and never regrets it.

I'm totally ignoring all the ones where they don't end up together happily because Tidus/Yuna is the ONLY pairing on the planet that I cannot bear to see broken up.

Other FF couples I don't really have much faith to but Tidus/Yuna are the IT couple for me, for some reason. I don't know why but the thought of them not having that oh-so-perfect happy ending makes me wibble like a little girl. ;)

Oh! BTW, have you finished watching VM season 2 on DVD?

Aw. I like T/Y too. Note, I have them going 3 for 5. But I also like the possibilities of Yuna alone; I had to at least look at that.

re. VM: not yet. I've only seen the first four episodes so far. Must. Watch. More!

As much as I like FFX-2, I'd really liked the possibilities we still had after FFX, especially for looking at what Yuna might've done on her own. (I had ideas, fic ideas even! LOL)

Ah, okay. You must watch more, I agree. But, hey, at least you know now who was at door! ;)

Same goes for me- Yuna and Tidus are perfect for each other and nobody else! (although I do have a soft spot for Yuna and Baralai). I love my happy endings... I originally wanted FFX-2 for the sole purpose of seeing a reunion scene :)

Just to bring the wrath of your flist unto me: >D HAHA T/Y BREAKUP SCENES.

okay, i'm done now. I like all five of them, though, really. :F

I thought you might appreciate those. ;)

Thanks! :)

I'm not a vengeful B/Y fan at all. :D I did like T/Y, just not his return at the end of the game. AU, no FFX-2, going straight from FFX? Bring on the T/Y. But in all other cases, no way. 'Sides, poor Baralai needs someone with endless patience to deal with his inherant evilness! 8D

The first ending was of course the most obvious, and probably the most popular one too. However I liked all of them, especially the fifth one, i thought you told that 20 second story very well :-D
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

You're welcome! Thanks for asking it; writing all these up was a really interesting exercise.

What do you think will happen to Spira now that Vegnagun and all visable threats have been eliminated? You don't have to answer that five times, i was just asking in general.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I've thought about that, actually. In my epic fic, which takes place partly in Spira's future, the world eventually settled down thanks to a democratically-elected secular government made up of former leaders from all the factions and races and headquartered in Luca (since that's the closest thing Spira had to a neutral ground during the time of Yevon). The Youth League folded itself into the new government and became its military arm, the Spira Defense Force; New Yevon continued to exsist, but exerted very little influence outside Bevelle. There are a bunch of ways it could play out, of course, but this is the one I picked, and I think it works. :)

How about you? What do you think happens?

[identity profile] furitaurus.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I have also thought about this, and I agree with part of what you think will happen, particularly the part about the demo-elected government comprised of an equal number of members from each race in Spira. The Youth League and New Yevon combine their forces to create a united peace force, with the machine faction being their principal hardware supplier. Most of their work will be cut out dealing with fiends.
But the outward peace of Spira will sometimes only be skin deep. Turmoil and trouble will intermittently rear its ugly head in many forms, such as common human failings, corruption, greed etc, but also from external issues. The War 1000 years ago left more loose ends than just Lenne and Shuyin; that war consumed thousands of lives, how many more Shuyin's and Lenne's are there out there? Now with Old Yevon gone and people discovering the secrets of Spira, crises like the one with Vegnagun inevitably arise.
Yuna's victory over Sin will always be her greatest feat, but also a curse for the rest of her life; she will be the one expected to help deal with these infrequent, but dangerous problems, and her good heart will always make her say yes. Yuna, Tidus, Rikku and Paine will fight for Spira, on the quiet, time and again. Her children will join her in her battles, when old enough to fight, creating a force to be reckoned with.
Eventually, many years after Sin of course, a fifty-something Yuna will get into one fight too many, and fall at the hands of an opponent too strong and fast for an ageing gunslinger. As their fates are directly linked, Tidus fades away as she dies and he takes her to the farplane; no sending is ever needed.
Her death only makes Spira's people stronger and more determined to make this peace last forever. Her children carry on in her stead and a statue of her and Tidus embracing is crafted in the centre of Luca. They are never forgotten.
