Questions about catching up on the Arrowverse
Okay, so we're doing this. And I have some questions. I'm now up to Season 3 of Arrow, which is when other shows start appearing. I've found this exhaustive list, which is every episode of every series in chronological order, and while I do have a completionist streak, the idea of tackling the exhaustive list is, well, exhausting. I've watched the first two episodes of Flash S1 and Arrow S3, alternating them as the list suggests.
Two questions:
1a. Do I need to watch the non-CW shows? Specifically, Constantine, Vixen, and Freedom Fighters: The Ray. Of these, the only one that really appeals is Vixen; I'm familiar with Constantine's character from his stint as a regular on Legends of Tomorrow and less inclined to watch a whole show about him, especially as its continuity with the rest of the Arrowverse is retroactive. But if any of these series are really good and/or really important to the overall canon, I might be convinced.
1b. I understand that Black Lightning is not officially part of the Arrowverse chronology. But I've also heard it's quite good. Should I watch it as part of this project, go back and watch it later (on the theory that I want to catch up on Arrow and Flash before the new seasons start in the fall), or skip entirely?
2. Should I watch Arrow and Flash in pure internal chronological order, which mostly involves alternating episodes with some exceptions, or would it be better to watch each series in a chunk? I found another guide that suggested watching episodes in batches to line up with the explicit crossovers, which is appealing in a way, but I worry about missing connections or getting spoilers. (Not that I haven't already been spoiled for a million things thanks to Legends and the Supergirl crossovers, but we'll pretend that's not a thing for now.) Advice?
Any thoughts are welcome. :) Thanks!
