hinikuish, because she is bored and because I bet she didn't believe me when I told her I'd get to it someday. A sort of prequel/companion piece to my other Yunalai drabbles.
"I dunno, Yunie." Rikku bounced back on the bed, a half-crumpled invitation in her fist. "What if he's still out there somewhere?"
Yuna stared out the window, heart churning as she braced her hands on either side of the porthole. "He's not," she said. It was the most difficult sentence she had ever spoken.
A firm hand fell on her shoulder. "Then do what makes you happy," Paine said, stepping up beside her. "If that means seeing Baralai, who cares what anyone else thinks?"
"I do," Yuna murmured. "I always have, anyway." She looked to Paine and then to Rikku. "All my life has been about my obligations to other people. But maybe I should start thinking about my obligations to myself."
Paine nodded, her expression solemn but with a gleam in her eye. "Long past time, I'd say."
"Well!" Rikku jumped off the bed in a single motion, and handed Yuna the letter she held. "What are you waiting for then?"
Yuna took Baralai's note with her first real smile in days. "Nothing." And without another word she walked out the door of the cabin and down to the bridge, ready to make a long-overdue call to Bevelle.
