T's office got a Wii last week, and so he and I snuck down there this afternoon to check it out. So far Wii Sports is the only game loaded, so we played baseball, bowling, golf, and tennis. I'm not quite ready to say that it's the greatest thing invented since the beginning of time, but it was pretty fun. I think I liked the tennis the best, because it was the most interactive; it was the only game that I felt like T and I were really playing together, instead of serially or in parallel. He kicked my ass, of course, in both tennis and bowling (golf and baseball we were about equally bad), but I don't feel too bad about that, because he bowled in college and took tennis lessons through almost all his childhood. I almost had the hang of tennis by the end, although I never did manage to win a game. And I got a real workout out of it.

So we've been planning on getting one sooner or later; this just whets our appetite. The only downside was that my shoulder was starting to complain at me by the end. But maybe that's good in a way; might force me to limit playing time to reasonable amounts!

The other fun geekiness this weekend was my trip to Alternative Press Expo (APE) with SE and SS on Saturday. My checkbook did not quite catch fire, but I think my credit card may still be smoking a little. And my to-read pile grew. A lot. So far I've read the first volume of Scott Pilgrim, which I found suitably wacky and definitely entertaining -- I'll be picking up the rest. The other comic you should all check out right away is Tea Club. Tea, martial arts, college angst, and a talking bear. What could be better?

Yeah, I went to APE, fully intending to just take in all the talent and take pictures, but ended up spending a good $60-$70. Too much good stuff! Highlights were Art Spiegelman, Bryan Lee O'Malley, and an artist named Jerrell Conner were the highlights. Coincidentally, we had a few people over for a Wii party today, and played Wii Sports (though we never got to golf). It was a tremendously good time. I'm not sure how much staying power it would have for repeat visits, but everybody had a great time, from the moment I sat them down and made them make Miis to look like themselves (or each other, in the case of one couple). :)

I also like tennis the best. I particularly like cooperative play so we can play without a split screen. Bowling and baseball are fun too...

The main problem with the Wii is the lack of a huge number of good games. Zelda is great though, you might enjoy that (though it's not a true RPG). I hear Super Paper Mario is neat too, want to pick that up. And don't forget the Harry Potter Wii game coming out in the not-so-distant future, where you can apparently use the Wiimote as a wand! ;)

Zelda yes. I have never played it but always wanted to. I know it's more action/adventure than RPG, but I like those, too (we're playing Okami right now and I adore it). That's the main reason I've wanted a Wii, actually, to try out Zelda. (T almost bought a GameCube soley for Zelda at one point.)

I don't know how often we would play the sports games but it would be fun to have them around!

How did you manage to get a Wii? Did you get it on eBay, or did you actually snag one from a store?

Zelda is definitely great. There's something extremely satisfying about swinging the Wiimote to slash with your sword. :) Adn the graphics and gameplay are real good.

We got lucky in a store a couple months ago. We had checked at various stores occasionally, but they never had any and I was kind of down about it because I knew I didn't care enough to show up at 4am like some people apparently do, so I figured it would be six months before I found one.

Then we were out shopping for baby stuff with Alex's mom and we had already been in one Best Buy, but I convinced them to check into another Best Buy that was across the street from the Babies R Us we were going to. There was an employee right by the registers with three of them. He said he had put them out twenty minutes previously and had already sold twelve. I think they were all gone by the time we had checked out. We were really lucky!

Thanks for the rec. It sounds like a great party-type game, so I'll definitely pick it up.

I'm sure there's got to be a Wii "feed-the-baby" game, so I'll practice and help out.

And WarioWare is fast-paced and silly and I giggled all the way through it. I also broke a Wiimote when trying to answer a phone. Be warned, you need to use the wrist strap for this one.

And I rule the dance level. RULE!

You get a Wii and I'm buying WarioWare and moving in. Oh, wait, that means T probably won't want to get one. Hmmm....

You know, there's this place called eBay where you could buy your own Wii. And then maybe I'd move in with you. Well, maybe T wouldn't be on board with that plan either...
