Monday morning

I've already gotten the weirdest question of the day, and it came literally as I was opening the front door:

"Find me any book with Walter Gropius's name on the cover."

At first we couldn't find anything (spelling error, in my defense I can only say that I haven't had my coffee yet), and so the student said that he'd just go to the "real" library. Thanks a lot, kid.

(We did manage to turn one up. He needed it for a book design class -- turns out he really did just care about the cover, not the content. Go figure.)

Nope, no one is making any claims of that sort as far as I've heard. It appears to have been a legitimate accident, just an inexperienced driver taking a turn too fast. I don't know enough about construction materials to say for sure, but I think they already knew that a gasoline fire that hot would melt steel. Whether that has implications for future road construction, I don't know. It'll be interesting to see what all the fallout will be.

I don't make that particular drive all that often anymore, so it shouldn't affect my life on a daily basis. Back when I was crossing the Bay Bridge every day, it would have had a definite impact! One of many reasons I'm glad not to have that commute any more.

Thanks for asking! I actually first found out what had happened yesterday afternoon, when my brother called from Nashville to see if we'd been affected.
