Those crazy curmudgeons

"The worst thing about this investigation is that it does change your life in terms of employment potential" -- Ted Stevens, Alaskan Senator, who stands accused of taking bribes from oil companies.

More gems here and here, including the now infamous "series of tubes" speech and the following choice cut:

"I am guilty of asking the Senate for pork and proud of the Senate for giving it to me."

Have you not heard IOKIYAR? (It's OK if you're a Republican?) Why are you picking on poor old Ted? Don't you know he's the longest serving man in the Senate? Why do you hate Amurica?

Why are you picking on poor old Ted?

Because he is soooooo pick-on-able. (That's probably not a word. Oh well.) Have you seen the clip where he turns to someone while he's speaking at the Senate podium, and he turns to the side and shouts "No!" ? It's the ultimate irascible old man moment. It also gets a lot of play on The Daily Show, to great effect.

Why do you hate Amurica?

Because all the cool kids are doing it? ;)

Shakespeare is great in part because he made up words when the words he needed didn't exist. Making up words is the legitimate right and duty of all of us.

Now whatever happened to that eeyoksrowgue?

Well, since none of us ever have to deal with substitute teachers anymore...

That can't be the correct spelling, it has to have been exactly seven letters. ;)

I don't remember the exact spelling--or even the approximate spelling--but I'm thinking it would have been 8 letters...

And it seems to me that substitute teachers sometimes use libraries.
