Food meme

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] friede

1) WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE FOODS?

Pizza. Lasagna. Steak (especially with potatoes and mushrooms). Dark chocolate. Cinnamon rolls. Burritos smothered in red sauce. Cheeseburgers. Cheese just generally. Dungeness crab. Good bread.

2) WHAT FOODS DO YOU HATE?

This is a long list, but some of the highlights are: Bananas, apricots (all stone fruits really), spinach, lamb, cilantro, black pepper, goat cheese, most fish.

3) FOODS YOU LIKE BUT ARE EMBARRASSED TO ADMIT?

Kraft Macaroni and Cheese tops this list. Not the "good" organic or high-end brands, either; I don't really like them at all. The ultimate comfort food. Also hot dogs, but only the all-beef kind.

4) STRANGEST FOOD YOU'VE EATEN AND ENJOYED?

I'm not coming up with anything. I'm just too much of a picky eater.

5) COOKING FAILURES THAT STILL RANKLE?

Probably the first time we tried to make chow mein and burned all the noodles into the pan.

6) INGREDIENTS YOU DON'T WANT TO CONSIDER LIVING WITHOUT?

Cheese. Chocolate. Sugar. Tomatoes (oddly, I don't really like them raw, but cooked they form the basis for many of my very favorites).

7) CUISINE YOU'D LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT?

Chinese. T and I have experimented a little with Chinese cooking, to the point where we have a couple of dishes in our regular rotation, but I'd like to have more.

8) FOODS YOU HATED BUT HAVE GROWN TO LOVE?

Broccoli. I figured that one out as a teenager.

CHEESE A+

B-but! OH, MY GOD. Everything you list for hated foods, I love. Even fish, if we’re counting it raw.

All of this to say: WHAT DID RAW TOMATOES EVER DO TO YOU? I’M HEARTBROKEN. sobs!

I used to have no tolerance for raw tomatoes, at all. Now I'll eat things like fresh salsa and bruschetta, but I'm still not crazy about them. I have no idea why; maybe it's a texture thing? Also tomatoes tend to sweeten up a bit when they're cooked, even if you don't add sugar. It's weird, I agree. ;)

T is a sushi fanatic and I have tried to like it, I really have. It's too bad, because the idea appeals to me, and it looks so pretty on the plate.

Bruschetta! God, I love bruschetta. I mean, it helps that it’s got cheese on it, right?

To be fair, I’ve known plenty of people who can’t stand tomatoes of any sort. But it’s funny; I think you and I are the exact opposite when it comes to tomatoes. I don’t actively dislike cooked tomatoes, but they do sweeten up and lose something of their flavor. I guess I’m not a big fan of sweet stuff!

Sushi and sashimi have gorgeous presentation; I agree! Have you ever tried squid?

Not raw, but I do like squid cooked. Especially breaded and deep fried with dipping sauce. Calamari mmm. I also like crab and clam chowder (but not plain clams so much) and shrimp, but that's about it for me and seafood.

I have a terrible sweet tooth so this may explain some of the differences in our food preferences. :)
