FFX-2 poll!

I've been thinking about doing something like this for awhile, and finishing the replay gives me the perfect excuse. One of the downsides of FFX-2 is that so much of the best content is buried, easy to skip in your rush to hit all the hotspots (and I would just like to reiterate my best advice on this: if you're playing FFX-2 to get as much story as possible, save the hotspots for last whenever you can), and I've often wondered what the implications of that are, in terms of what people know. So, to that end: a poll!

[Poll #1084965]

Very interested to see how this comes out! I do, however, request that you not flame the game in comments -- flawed or no, I happen to be very fond of it, so if anyone comes out with the burning hatred we aren't going to get very far in discussion. Thanks.

I actually went back with a New Game Plus to get Gippal's Sphere, but I forgot to tick it. >.<; Also, my memory is a bit fuzzy about the areas in which I got episode complete.

There's a way to change your answers in a poll. I think if you go to this link, you should be able to do that.

I have seen Gippal's Sphere on YouTube, but for all I've tried, I've never been able to get the Mi'ihen mission to end that way. Alas.

I think that as a rule I shouldn't be allowed to do polls like this. XDD OBSESSIVE/CANON WHORE FOR THE WIN.

PS: THE BAD ENDING IS AWESOME. I FELT MAJOR GUILT, BUT I LAUGHED THE ENTIRE TIME. THE PEOPLE! THEY RUN AWAY! AND DIE!!

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I pretty much figured what your answers would be. ;)

As I finished up this replay, I *almost* lost on purpose just to see that ending. But I didn't have time to replay twice so I skipped it. (I did have Yuna tell the fayth "no", though!)

For some reason I could never trigger the events to get Gippal's Sphere, even with a guide. And I accidentally hit that I've gotten the "Bad" ending because I went all clickey-happy and checked all the boxes XD

I swear that the people who think the game really sucked only did Hotspots. The game definitely has it's redeeming qualities in the character development, even if the plot itself is a little shaky and can get a little cutesy with all the "girl power!" moments.

That and it did provide me with my OTP *waves Yunalai flag!*

You can change your answers. Just click on the link at the top and then choose "Fill out Poll".

Yeah, I don't love the game for the plot, I love it for the world and the characters. But like I said in the last post, so much of that develoment happens through the Crimson Sphere sidequest and other sidequests, so I can understand that someone who missed chunks of that might not "get" it. That said, I know of at least one person who got a near complete game and still hated it. Tastes differ, and that's cool.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and it probably goes without saying, but: I'm so with you on thanking the game for bringing me an OTP ;)

YUNALAI FTW

... what I'm not stalking the comments to this OKAY I AM

[identity profile] sirea1182.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, you wrote the Kissing Meme thing! It was a very nice little piece, sorry I never commented on it.

You haven't written anything else Yunalai? Because you should ;) The world needs more!

[identity profile] katmillia.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well see I have like 9057350753753315 pairings. And I don't write much sometimes cause I get busy at work (or doing NaNo like now). But I think I did write a Yunalai once.... maybe it's sitting on my harddrive. ODDS ARE GOOD OF THAT. Right now I'm trying to fill the world with more Leon/Cloud for yummy holiday presents. Of sexiness. Mwahaha!!

But I shall, and if I ever actually get one written, I'll let you know!

I'm not sure which of the areas I completed. I tried to check my saved game, but it appears the only memory I have of nearly finishing is a saved game + and some other games that aren't properly completed.

What about the normal ending though? I have gotten that one as well although I've never seen the bad one till just now when I youtubed it.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure the normal ending is the default -- if you've finished the game, you've seen it. With that question, I was trying to get at cutscenes and optional areas that advance the plot (except the bad ending, I just included that one for fun!) but that are possible to miss.

I can't be 100% certain about some of the areas either. I have this idea that I got ep. complete on the Moonflow once, but I can't remember what happened.

[identity profile] mneme-forgets.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes lots of sense! I am still very amused by the bad ending, although disappointed there were not more explosions and angsting. I mean, if you're going to do a terrible apocalyptic ending you could at least do it PROPERLY.

Seriously. Just some flames shooting up from the gorge in the Calm Lands? Sin was a lot more threatening. ;)

My answers are borked because it was four years ago, so I don't remember, and the PS2 is busted so I can't fire it up to see the actual figures. But I remember being incredibly irritated that, with my usual obsessiveness with doing EVERYTHING, I only got 62% on first playthrough (not using a guide.)

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I didn't use a guide my first time through and only got 70-something. In some ways the game rewards typical gamer behavior (persistence with the commspheres), but in others you have to go against the grain (not visiting places in order -- if you go in order in Chapter 3, and to a lesser extent in Ch. 2, you get screwed out of whole chunks of story). I wonder whether an RPG can be non-linear and present the player enough choices without taking that risk.

[identity profile] kilraaj.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's true that you can miss a lot of things if you're rushing, but my sister and I tried to be thorough--we both played through at least once, we tried giving the sphere to different people, but though we used a walkthrough we never did quite seem to hit 100%--I think I was stuck at either 98 or 99%. I don't remember where I got Episode Complete, either. (It probably doesn't help that I eventually read the script/watched video for most events I did miss, so in some cases I can't tell if I remember it 'cause I saw it or 'cause I played it XD;;;;.) While I found the game fun to play, I wasn't really impressed by the story or characters, but I wouldn't say it was terrible, either.

Did like that they let you get a glorified game over though. Yay for Vegnagun blowing up everything!

[identity profile] blueshinra.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't get any of those endings o.o;

Been so long since I played the game, I've forgotten much of what I have and haven't gotten.

[identity profile] blueshinra.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, nm, I see now that the normal ending was left off intentionally :P
