Academic conference to have panel on the Flying Spaghetti Monster

It's the American Academy of Religion, and the panel is called
Evolutionary Controversy and a Side of Pasta: The Flying Spaghetti Monster and the Subversive Function of Religious Parody. With presentation titles like "Pirates Can Predict the Weather: The Flying Spaghetti Monster and the Nature of Truthiness".

I love the Internet.

I spotted this amongst a number of strange news items this morning. I think we are all losing our collective minds. Maybe seven years of neocom rule has at last driven us mad.

I think it's excellent. From reading the article and the abstract, it sounds like a panel on the power of parody and satire and their role in religious studies. Anything that takes a pop culture phenomenon and gets real academic study out of it is a winner in my book. ;)

Wow, that it too cool. I want to attend and take note of the number of times Pastafarian is mentioned :)

"A Pirate’s Life for Me: Hacking Traditional Religion" is a hilarious talk title. ARRRGH, be this faith of an open source ilk? ;-)
