Title: Splitting Up
Fandom: FFX-2
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 160
Characters: CS4 (Baralai, Gippal, Nooj, Paine)
Pairings: n/a
Spoilers: For the Crimson Spheres
Notes: This was once part of another (as yet unfinished) story, but it didn't really seem to fit there, so I pulled it out and let it sit for awhile. I was going through my WIP file the other day and came across it; it kept asking me to finish it, so I did. Influenced by some things Paine says in Last Mission, and by my ongoing need to solve the Amazing!Running!Baralai! problem.*

"Want us to split up?"

"That would be wise."

---

The Travel Agency didn't have sufficient facilities to care for three wounded travelers. One, at best, and even that would be a strain on their resources.

They stabilized the Yevonite, bundled him onto a hover -- fortunately, he was unconscious and so unable to complain about the mode of transport -- and sent him to his own people at Djose. The Al Bhed's injuries were the most serious, so the captain of the salvage ship docked at the base of the cliff agreed to rush him Home for the best medical treatment in all Spira. That left the girl. They asked the fourth member of the party, the Crusader who'd reported the shooting, if he knew where she was from.

He looked away, the last rays of sunset reflecting off his spectacles and hiding his eyes. "Just... take care of her." Before anyone could say another word, he left, trudging north along the Highroad.

And so they took her in.

*The Amazing!Running!Baralai! problem: if you get Baralai's sphere in FFX-2, it's clear that he was in Guadosalam before Yuna and her party. But the shooting was on the day of Operation Mi'ihen, at the Mi'ihen Travel Agency, which is some distance away, and in the wrong direction. How did he beat her there, especially considering that he had just been shot? The above is my attempt at a possible explanation.

I-I know this is like, a million years later. FORGIVE ME.

AMAZING!RUNNING!BARALAI IS AN AMAZING RUNNER. HE SWOOSHES BY AT THE SPEED OF SOUND.

Yeah, I was actually thinking about that as a reread the confessional. If there were Macalania or something in between, it would make more sense, but it's just a little sketchy how he makes it so fast. I dunno, though, I kind of figure he stole a chocobo or something and sped through while they were in djose. I think they stayed over, and if 'Lai rode through the night, he could've arrived before they did.

ALSO I LOVE YOUR FICS.

It's never too late to leave a review. :) Thanks!

Stealing a chocobo could work to explain it, too, but my question would be whether he's in any shape to ride one after the shooting. Then again, he doesn't appear to be injured or even winded when he's talking to Seymour. This may be a case of us thinking something through much more than the people who wrote the game...
