Shipping meme!

Yes, I am spamming today. You wanna make somethin' of it? ;)

Anyway, a shipping meme for Valentine's Day, since it is officially after midnight. Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] peachespig.

Comment to this entry with any fandom. If I'm knowledgeable enough in the fandom to have ships, I'll tell you one non-canon ship I like, one canon ship I like, and one ship I really don't like (either canon OR fanon). Then post this in your own journal to offer up the same responses (as always, the tagging portion of this meme is optional).

And if I'm not that knowledgeable about the fandom, well, I'll just make something up. That should be fun. ;)

I know how you feel about X/X-2 (kind of), but I don't know how you feel about FFVIII! So do it! XD

My non-canon guilty-pleasure ship for FFVIII is Squall/Quistis. My first encounter with the game was when T played it, after it first came out, and whenever possible he would try to set the two of them up. You never get anywhere with it, of course, but I felt bad for her, like she should have gotten more of a chance with him. So I continue to have a soft spot for the pairing.

Canon ship: Squall/Rinoa, despite the above. I always thought that their opposites-attract relationship was both sweet and believable.

Disliked ship: Squall/Laguna. Not only am I generally not a big fan of incest ships, I find the whole idea to be out of character for Laguna. I could see Squall going for something dark and complicated and screwed up, but not Laguna. So it is not for me.

I always felt bad for Quistis too, especially later in the game when she's trying to rationalize her feelings and you know she's really thinking "Why wouldn't Squall give me a chance?" on some tiny little level.

Yeah, totally. It kind of ties into the thing that always frustrated me the most about FFVIII -- they set up all these really interesting secondary characters (I'm thinking particularly of Quistis and Zell) and then they never do anything with them.

Also, LOLicon.

I agreed on my very first playthrough and I still agree now. I felt like there were a bunch of awesome characters who were abandoned to play second-fiddle to the (dubiously-done, depending on how you look at it) romance between Squall and Rinoa. Quistis and Irvine were my favorites, but Selphie and Zell also have a lot of potential that just didn't even get touched.

Because someone else is probably bound to do FFX...Harry Potter?

Non-canon ship: Neville/Ginny. I like the Harry/Ginny ship better than I expected to, but I always thought it would be fun to see what Neville would be like in a relationship. Especially the kick-ass Neville of the later books. I'm also fascinated by the idea of the two of them running the Hogwarts Resistance together, and the ship possibilities there intrigue me.

Canon ship: Ron/Hermione. I started seeing the seeds of this at least as far back as the third book, maybe even earlier. So I came to it because I was pretty sure it would be canon (and I have a strong bias for canon ships, or at least ships with a strong basis in canon), but I stayed because I like them together.

Disliked ship: Harry/Hermione. Not because of the more-intense segments of fandom, although it doesn't help, but because I always saw their dynamic as friends/siblings, and it always bothers me when a friend/sibling relationship in a story is forced into romance. And, for me, it would have felt forced. So I'm glad she didn't go that way.

I think I'm going to say FFXII!

YOU NEED MORE FANDOMS. *coughgaylawyerscough*

*checks interests* I have lots of fandoms! I just don't tend to be active like with FF. Who knows why. Anyway.

Ships I like: So the thing about FFXII is that it doesn't really *have* any canon ships, except for Ashe/Rasler, but there are plenty of ships with some canon support, depending on how you look at them. Like, I see plenty of broad Balthier/Ashe hints, but is it "canon"? No, not really. Same with Balthier/Fran, Larsa/Penelo, and Vaan/Penelo. (All ships I like, except for Balthier/Fran, which I find much more compelling as a platonic partnership.) I'm also interested by Drace/Gabranth and Anyone/Al-Cid (although that's mostly about the lulz and the crack).

A ship I don't like: Larsa/Vayne. No no no. Kill it *with fire*.
