You may have noticed that I've been tinkering with my journal layout throughout the day. (Also that I've been posting way more than is usual. Fridays will do that to me, sometimes.) The short explanation is that I've decided to take the plunge and pay for an account, for a number of reasons but largely because I'm merging my two journals -- I'm going to retire active posting at [livejournal.com profile] kjswritinglog and move all my writing content and communication over here. Maintaining two active accounts was getting to be more trouble than it was worth. I'll do my best to keep everything under control with cuts and tags.

Now I can play with using icons! I am useless at making them, though -- don't have the right software and don't know that I have the design skills if I did -- so I will have to go hunting.

There was an LJ community that would create userpics for you, but they quit accepting requests last month. For other communities that might provide them, there are some options here (http://www.livejournal.com/interests.bml?int=user+pics).

Wherever you go, your faithful admirers will follow. You have become an addiction.

The easiest way I know to do user-pics is to load images you like into your Scrapbook account - which comes with the paid account - and then transfer thumbnails over to your 'Pictures' file. That is what I did with all the paintings.

I don't have PhotoShop either and have no drive to learn graphics on a computer. The old-fashioned way with brush or knife on canvas is enough for us.

Thanks, I will check those out!

Looks like the fast answer was to have a husband who's an amateur graphic artist...

That is most kind of you to say. :)

Using the Scrapbook thumbnails as icons sounds like a handy shortcut; I'll try that. Thanks for the suggestion. Getting online photo storage space was one of the reasons I went for the upgrade -- none of the free options out there do nothing for me.

That's a great icon!

By the way, I find the font you currently have up hard to read (but I like the black-on-white). 'Tis okay, as I usually read you from my friends page, which defaults to something different, but I thought you might like to know.

Thanks. I came up with the concept but all the actual work is credited to T.

I made the text bigger; does that help? I know that serif fonts are harder to read on screen, but I so much prefer the way they look. I am torn. I'll probably keep poking at the layout and design for awhile.

Bigger helps a bit, but that particular serif font has a lot of variation in thickness of the strokes, and I find that more tiring to read. I don't know if someone else would have the same problem.
