P/N community!

So this is something I've dreamed about for a long time: an LJ community for Paine/Nooj. For years I have hoped that someone would start one, or thought about making one myself. Lack of time and inspiration to do any real moderating always held me back. Then, back when LJ announced the end of Basic accounts, I decided that I'd better at least create one, even if just as a placeholder, so that it would exist for when I was ready to do something with it. Just in case. That was several months ago now; again, with the time and the motivation and the wondering if there was anyone else out there who would even be interested.

But, well. I've never been one to be able to sit on anything I was excited about. And summer is now upon us, which usually means that more people are around to do fandomy things. Perhaps as a result, I've been seeing more X/X-2 activity lately, so I figured, what the hell. Maybe the time is ripe.

Besides, it just seemed wrong that there are two Paine/Gippal communities on LJ while there wasn't even one for Paine/Nooj. (Not that either of those are particularly active. But still.)

Therefore, I present:

[livejournal.com profile] painexnooj

A home for fanworks of all sorts (fic, meta, graphics, artwork, vids...) as well as discussion and just general sharing of the love for Paine and Nooj, together and apart -- but especially together. ;) As I said in the intro post, I'm more than open for suggestions about how to make a community work. Should I put up prompts? Other regular features? Any and all ideas are welcome.

Come visit, join up, post!! Let's get this off the ground.

Of course there's a Paine/Gippal community! WHO CAN RESIST THE INCEST, KAYJ?

Me?

BTW, I knew you were going to comment on this part... It never ceases to amuse me how you, the self-described canon whore, stand so wholeheartedly behind the only Paine-related pairing that canon explicitly rules out. ;)

That sounded a whole lot like a dig.

How is it less canon than any of the other Paine pairings?

We've joked about this before, so I thought you'd know I was just teasing. Sorry; no dig meant.

Anyway, from it's the cut scene after the fight with the Djose Experiment, when Paine admits to having learned Al Bhed from Gippal; Rikku says something snarky, implying that Paine and Gippal must have hooked up, and Paine says "it wasn't like that." And it's not a "protesting too much" thing, it's a flat denial. I'll allow that doesn't rule out a future relationship, but I think it pretty clearly rules out a past one.

From doing ff_p I've noticed that communities like [livejournal.com profile] quitethecouple which do "Weekly Prompts" and stuff like that seem to be more active. It might be cool to have prompts or challenges or discussions or something like that!

It depends on how you read it. I can just as easily see the scene as Paine understanding that Rikku is getting at something much more serious and involved than the 30 Minute Fling, and denying that implication without hesitation.

Anyway, I ship non canon almost all the time - I tend to find a lot of canon couples boring. Just cuz my OTP is canon doesn't make it typical for me. I'm a canon whore, not a canon pairing whore.

Vote for prompts, noted! :)

I agree, it makes sense that communities with prompts would be more active; if nothing else, it keeps the community alive on people's flists and, ideally, on FF Press. Visibility on a crowded internet, always a good thing.
