some of my favorite things

As an antidote to the world, Jed offers this list of kitten links. Many of these were already familiar to me, but I had not seen this review of a kitten. I particularly enjoyed the chart at the end.

Last night was also a lovely antidote to the world. My friend C is babysitting a sailboat for the weekend, so he invited a group of people to come have a picnic on it last night in the San Francisco Bay. I love boats in all their forms, so I accepted quite happily. We launched from Oakland at around 8pm and pulled back in at midnight. We spent the intervening time sailing around the bay, taking in the view of downtown San Francisco and the Bay Bridge, chatting, eating a dinner that R and S provided for us, including S's delicious homemade pot de creme for dessert, and enjoying an unexpected fireworks display from the best seat in the house. Boats, fireworks, San Francisco, chocolate, friends: it doesn't get much better than that.

Thank you so much for the review link. I have sent to some of my acquaintances who I have been boring lately with my gloom. It is a welcome diversion.

Your evening sounds like a short sojourn in heaven. I am so glad you had it.

It really was. I will take any excuse to be on a boat, and it was a lovely night for sailing. Cold, but clear and beautiful.

I'm glad you enjoyed the kitten page! I was reading it at home this morning before work, and I had to stifle my chortling so as not to wake T.

Since the topic has turned to kittens, I loved the sleeping cat olympic page that was linked to the jon Caroll article you mentioned a few days ago... especially the cat sleeping on the wire hangers in the closet.

I will always let the topic turn to kittens. :) I was just looking at that page earlier today. So very adorable. No matter what is wrong with the world, kittens can always make it better.

Sigh, kittens. No recent progress to report on the cat negotiation front, unfortunately.
