"Yes on Prop 8" campaign threatens to "expose" businesses and individuals who donated money to the other side

ProtectMarriage.com, the umbrella group behind a ballot initiative that would overturn the California Supreme Court decision that legalized gay marriage, sent a certified letter this week asking companies to withdraw their support of Equality California, a nonprofit organization that is helping lead the campaign against Proposition 8.

"Make a donation of a like amount to ProtectMarriage.com which will help us correct this error," reads the letter. "Were you to elect not to donate comparably, it would be a clear indication that you are in opposition to traditional marriage. ... The names of any companies and organizations that choose not to donate in like manner to ProtectMarriage.com but have given to Equality California will be published."

Blackmail. Yeah, that's the way to convince people of the rightness of your cause.

I was interested to read yesterday that San Francisco, at least, has not gone over to the hypocrites. The proposal to legalize prostitution is the most fascinating story to come out of your fascinating city lately. I envy you your adopted home.

Technically, it's not legalization; it would just make it official city policy that laws against prostitution not be enforced. Although I'm for decriminalization generally, I need to do a little more research to determine whether this is the way to go about it. Between twelve statewide propositions and 22 (yes, 22) for the city of SF, I have a lot of research to do in two weeks.

Yes, I heard about this. Very exciting news, although in a way not surprising -- large California companies have been almost unanimous in their opposition to Prop. 8. Very interesting. I wonder if they're looking at it as a way to possibly attract employees to the state? Whatever their reasons, I won't complain.
