March 9, 2010.
I was being so good -- not watching every video, not seeking out images and tidbits, keeping anticipation and expectations down.
So much for that.

I was mostly not paying attention to it, being focused on XII as I am, until last weekend when I went and watched a bunch of clips online, whatever I could find. It looks absolutely incredible. I don't have a good sense how the battle mechanisms will work yet, which will be pretty important, but just based on the visuals I am so there. XII was a big step foward from X but this is a whole new universe.
I've been watching the prices on 1080p TVs come down for a while now, and I seriously think this is going to be the thing that pushes me over the edge. No way I can play FFXIII in anything less than its full glory. The only decision is whether to play it on like a million discs on my 360, or will this make me pick up the PS3 as well....
Woooo!

I had been thinking that FFXIII would be the force I would use to nag T into finally picking up a PS3, but fortunately his sister saved me from that fate by getting him one for his last birthday. So now it looks like I may be nagging him into upgrading our (27" CRT -- I wish I was joking) television instead...
The PS3s continue to come down in price, although it's a bummer that they're no longer backwards compatible. It makes a really good DVD player, too, much better than the PS2 was.
Speaking of XII, how's that going? Still enjoying it?

Some 1080p TVs are under $1000 now, and not just crummy ones from companies you've never heard of. I'm thinking post-holiday sales will drive them even further down. You deserve to play FFXIII the way it was intended!
The backwards compatibility is a real issue for me. There are PS2 games I don't want to stop playing; it just baffles me that they would do this, when the PS2 has like the largest catalogue of games ever and kept getting some solid titles released until well past the PS3 came out. I guess I would just have to leave both systems plugged in, which seems like a huge waste of space.
XII is going well! I'm 40+ hours in by now. I don't play every day and I'm kind of taking my time with the main plot, but I've been doing a lot the last few days. I am at the point where I am supposed to go into the Henne Mines, but instead last night I went and took out a few level II marks — Croakadile and Enkelados. It's nice to fight those things when we have Larsa there, doing that Hi-Potion thing he does. Also tried a level III mark (Gil Snapper) and didn't manage it, at least the first time. Might have to level a little more. I should be done before XIII comes out. ;)
