26 is drafted. As I was writing it, I found my focus in the Lissira half of the story switching to Paine and Baralai. This is not a direction I was expecting to go, and I'm a little concerned that it won't hang together -- I believe the transition itself was organic, but I still don't think this is truly Paine's story, and I'm afraid spending too much time on her life will break the momentum. At times like this, I wonder whether I should only have used Lissira as an occasional framing device rather than trying to weave the stories of father and daughter together. But it is the task I have set for myself, and I will see it through.
I think I will keep moving forward, into 27 and possibly beyond, to make sure that the moments I am envisioning work together and link into the Auron story in the way I'm hoping they will.
I have missed writing in Paine's voice, though. Perhaps that's why "Fate" popped out so forcefully (although I've no doubt that it also had something to do with missing Nooj). But now I'm finding it... not trivial to return to Auron's; they are so different and yet similar in many ways, and I have to be very clear on which person I am writing.
