3w4dw: The meme

So I know the intention is to answer one question each day, but my schedule these next three weeks isn't really amenable to that, and most of these answers wouldn't make full posts anyway. So I am cheating and posting them all at once. ;) Please forgive me.

1. Why did you sign up for Dreamwidth?
Because I liked the prospect of a no-cost ad-free journaling service, and many of my friends were making noises about moving. I have a paid account now, but I'm glad I didn't have to pay to get a journal with no ads.

2. Why did you choose your journal name?
The owl and the moose are two animals with personal significance to me. You can read the abbreviated version of the moose story here; the owl is my alma mater's unofficial mascot. So I decided to mash them together to create my LJ name, and then carried it over here (as well as to many other corners of the Internet).

3. Do you crosspost? Why or why not?
I do crosspost to LJ, allowing comments in both places, and plan to continue for the foreseeable future. I have enough non-fannish friends who follow my LJ that I am not quite ready to cut the cord yet.

4. What do you do online when you're not on DW?
Many Google reader feeds! I'm semi-active on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr (although very new on Tumblr and still figuring out how I'm going to interact with it.) I'm also on IM pretty much whenever I'm sitting at my computer. And I write.

5. How about when you're not on the computer?
Hobbies include reading, singing, video games, wandering around cities, and going to interesting restaurants.

6. What do you wish people who read your journal knew about you?
If I want people to know about it, I'll write about it in my journal. Maybe that qualifies as an answer... From a practical standpoint, it might be helpful to know that T, who I mention from time to time, is my husband, and I tend to refer to other real-life friends and family by their initials as well. Oh, and when you're addressing me by name, I prefer to be called KJ rather than owlmoose. KJ is my name; owlmoose is my handle. If that makes any sense. I'll "answer" to owlmoose, of course. ;)

7. What is your favorite community on Dreamwidth?
I haven't really gotten active in any communities yet. On LJ, I interact more in individual's journals than in communities, and that trend seems to be continuing here. That said, I do enjoy lurking in [community profile] white_lotus, [community profile] donebykorra, and [community profile] efw.

8. What community do you wish was more active?
[community profile] fuckyeahfinalfantasy. It has the potential to be a great kink/anon meme, but hardly anyone ever writes for it, and as a result prompting has dropped off as well.

9. Are there two people on your reading list that you think should meet?
All of them! I would love to see more interaction here. Although many of you know each other already.

10. Tell me about your default icon.
It was discovered by [personal profile] renay, who is my go-to source for cute owl stuff. :) It's an owl in a hat! How could I resist that? I have a serious weakness for cute things.

11. What features do you think Dreamwidth should have that it doesn't currently?
I would love to have some variation on the "Like" button. I am not a Facebook fan, to put it mildly, but the "Like" feature is the one0 thing it got right. Having a low pressure way to interact would do wonders for community, I think.

12. What do you consider the five most "telling" interests from the list on your profile? Why?
None, individually. Perhaps the ever-growing list of games may be indicative of how important gaming has become to my life.

13. Do you have any unique interests on your user profile? What are they? How'd they get there?
I do not.

14. Did you have a gateway fandom? Still in it? Why or why not? Is there a community for it on DW?
Heck yes. My gateway fandom was Final Fantasy X/X-2, and though I'm not as active in it as I used to be, I continue to write and meta for it, and I still consider it my first and most beloved fannish home. As far as I know, there is no FFX/X-2 specific community on DW, although there are a few general Final Fantasy comms. There isn't much activity on LJ these days, either, mostly because the whole fandom seems to be slowing down. I guess it's not too surprising -- there hasn't been any new content for almost 10 years -- but it still makes me a little sad.

15. What's your current obsession? What about it captures your imagination?
Dragon Age! I am in the midst of a replay of Origins, and I actually went so far as to order the Ultimate Edition so I could have all the downloadable content. I am not ashamed to admit that my gigantic fangirl crush on Alistair, the lead NPC, is at least part of the fuel on the fire. But I just love the game, too. The world, the story, the characters, the gameplay. Right now I am torn between playing every scrap of this game -- Awakening, all the downloads, a third replay as a mage which I am really curious to do -- and moving on to Dragon Age 2 (which will have to wait regardless, because T and I are working on Portal 2, and much as I love Dragon Age, the return of Portal takes priority).

16. What are you glad you did but haven't really had a chance to post about?
I can't really think of anything, mostly because I tend to write about those types of things eventually.

17. How many people on your reading list do you know IRL?
Only a couple. Those of my RL friends who still journal are on LJ, but most of my interaction with RL friends has moved to (*shudder*) Facebook.

18. What don't you talk about here, either because it's too personal or because you don't have the energy?
Work, on both counts. I have decided to draw a hard line between my fannish life and my professional life; my personal life creates something of a buffer zone, but nothing crosses between them. Also, work has been rather stressful of late, and the idea of getting into the details of why is pretty exhausting. So I rarely post about work any more, even under lock.

19. Any questions from the audience?
Yes, please. :)

20. Yes, but what are your thoughts on yaoi?
I am not, and never have been, a slasher. This is not to say I don't see the appeal in the abstract, but slash goggles just don't fit me very well. I'm happy to read good slash, and I'll run with a good prompt when the mood strikes, but as a writer I tend to focus on het and gen.

21. What's your favorite thing about Dreamwidth?
The dedication that so many people have to it. And, as mentioned above, the commitment to an ad-free user experience.
