temptation

Since I take the Bay Bridge to get to work, Interstate 80 is part of my daily commute. I-80 starts on the Bay Bridge and goes almost all the way to New York City, and it is a secret ambition of mine to someday drive the whole thing, end-to-end, in a single trip.

Some mornings, I am tempted to just keep going.

Not to escape my life, particularly; it's a pretty good life, all things considered. But to do something really out there, chase a crazy dream for once. I'm not so good at that sort of thing. I wish I were.

You are not kidding about Nebraska. That state lasts for-frickin'-ever.

I have been on almost every part of I-80 at one time or another, I think. But never the whole thing in one trip, never with time to make stops along the way. That's the dream.

I like it!
particularly the part that says "take I-80 1952.3 miles"

can I come too? I need to be educated in the ways of the US.

I've actually not been on most of I-80 west of Chicago. It is theoretically impossible to drive across the country without stopping in Kansas and seeing Alex's parents, so we usually end up on I-70. And we lived in Southern California, so we went south of the Sierras rather than through them.

I never used to know much about the geography of the US before I shared an apartment with George Greco. :) Driving across it twice has helped, too, and back and forth across the West several more times.

"take I-80 1952.3 miles"

Yes, that caught my eye too. :)

Of course you can come. I actually rather enjoy taking the occasional day-long road trip alone, but doing this particular drive by myself would be a bit much. Just get out here when we both have a couple of weeks to spare and we'll hop in the car and go.
