update

We met some cats on Sunday. Kittens actually, 3 months old. And we've decided to adopt them!

Not sure yet when exactly we are going to pick them up; still working out the arrangements. But, barring unforseen circumstances, I'd say by this weekend for sure.

We're getting two, a brother/sister pair. The male is almost pure black and the female is a silver tabby. Unfortunately, T forgot to bring his camera yesterday, so I don't have any pictures to share yet. But I'm sure I'll be boring you all to death with cat photos soon enough.

Cats! Yay!

yay!!! I will definitely have to come visit then!

Why yes. Yes you will. ;)

Ooh, Lucky you. As I said to Ikon a little while back, I want to get a kitten once I'm living on my own. T's family got a pair of kittens a couple of months ago :)

Oooh, yes please, kitten pics!

One of the most wonderful cats we ever lived with was a totally - to the tip of his whiskers - black tom. He still lives in our memories and we have the most lovely recollections of him.

Have you begun giving any thought to names? ;)

For Moose Day? Because the best hospitality a host can provide is 14-wk-old kittens.

Congratulations! That is wonderful news!

it's true, you can't really beat 14 week old kittens as hospitality :)

I am looking at tix

Is that him in the userpic? Such a handsome kitty.

Um, I was counting my chickens before they hatched on that one. ;) I think their names came to me while I was at lunch yesterday. I don't want to say yet, though -- I need to spend more time with them and make sure the names work first. You know how it is with cats -- they have definite ideas about what their names should be.

Hm. I don't know. My cats need names that I can spell. And pronounce. And know the meanings off. ;)

Thank you!! As you might guess, I am still really excited. :) Pictures as soon as I have them...

Yes, that is Mac. He is the only cat I have ever lived with who had a real, honest to g-d, chin. He also had a Roman nose. And was an arrant coward. LOL

Have you ever read Eliot's "The Naming of Cats" from "Ol Possum's Book of Practical Cats"? I agree totally that cats have many names (at least three) and that one must wait to learn what a cat's proper name is to be. When we first brought Prudence home, we called her 'Fancy' as a sort of place-holder until it became evident she was emphatically - PRUDENCE! You are wise to hold off.

I have. The three names concept is a great one. Eliot clearly knew his cats.

Nadia told me her name almost right away and I'm sure these cats will do the same.

Oh, I have to dig up [livejournal.com profile] i_iambe's post on why her cat is named Ed.

She pointed me to that in the cat advice post. It's a wonderful story.

Raising kittens is so much fun, but a lot of work. They really can be like taking care of children. *jumps up and down* I can't wait for pictures!!!!

[identity profile] grue23.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's great news! I can't wait to meet them! :)

I hear there's a DM ticket with your name on it, too. :)

[identity profile] waterowl.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats!! Can't wait to meet them.

You could never bore me with cat photos! I LOVE them!

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't know. T is capable of taking many, many, many cat photos. He only lived with Nadia for five years and we have hundreds, maybe thousands of pictures of her. And these are kittens, who will be doing all kinds of
cute, photogenic, kitteny things. Maybe I should take this as a challenge! ;)

[identity profile] angeltaisha.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)

Oh, don't I know that. Erik takes most of my cat photos. He took the latest one I posted of Milo. I keep telling him to knock it off but he says he can't resist the cuteness. *facepalm*

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
You gotta admit, the cuteness is hard to resist. :)
